PHILADELPHIA--()--InfoCommerce Group conferred its 2010 Models of Excellence awards on TechCrunch, SmartZip Analytics and Spiceworks for their creation of exemplary data products at its Data Content 2010 conference last night at the Sofitel Philadelphia.
“They exemplify what is driving the data industry’s evolution: markets don’t stand still, and competition frequently comes from out of nowhere.”
“With so much innovation coming out of the data industry, tracking it is hard, and making sense of it is even harder,” said Russell Perkins, Founder and Managing Director of InfoCommerce Group. “The impetus behind the Models of Excellence was to answer the one question our firm is constantly asked – Who’s doing it right?”
The answer now, says Perkins, is frequently provided by new entrants to the field who think far outside the traditional publishing mindset. “They exemplify what is driving the data industry’s evolution: markets don’t stand still, and competition frequently comes from out of nowhere.”
According to Perkins, the 2010 winners are noteworthy in different ways. CrunchBase, produced by TechCrunch, is a rich and robust crowd-sourced company database. SmartZip Analytics has brought to market an incredibly well-timed data product that prospective homebuyers use to assess a home’s likely future appreciation. Spiceworks IT network management software puts it in the center of a remarkable pool of extremely valuable market data.
The winners were selected from a group of finalists that included Baseline StudioSystem, BrightScope Inc., HealthPrize Technologies, UniversalBusiness Listing, OneSource iSell, Paladin Registry and Quantros.
The Models of Excellence program is in its seventh year. A full list of prior winners is available at http://www.infocommercegroup.com/industry_research/index.htm
