HTML5 and Web Video Standards To Be a Major Focus at The Streaming Media West Conference

“Debunking HTML5 Video Myths: A Guide For Video Publishers”

"HTML5 and Web Video Standards" is a pre-conference workshop focusing on HTML5 as a video standard and includes a look at the code of live HTML5 video deployments. Hosted by HTML5video.org and the Open Video Alliance – leading organizations in the open video movement – this workshop will highlight the benefits and challenges of working with HTML5 video and help clarify the various video standards in the marketplace today. Presenters are Zohar Babin, Open Source Community Manager, and Michael Dale, Senior Developer, HTML5 Media Library, both from HTML5video.org. The workshop will take place on Monday, November 1 from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m.

"Debunking HTML5 Video Myths: A Guide For Video Publishers," explores the capabilities of HTML5, the differences across browsers, how they compare to those of the Flash platform, and their impact on the business of video encoding and distribution. The session on Tuesday, November 2 at 2:45 p.m., will be presented by Robert Reinhardt, author of the Flash Bible series.

"HTML5 And Web Video Standards" is a panel on the potential benefits that HTML5 Video holds for content providers, browser developers, and end users who can no longer afford to have video delivery mechanisms locked up in standards that cannot be adapted to new environments, including emerging mobile video and cross-device video technologies. The panelists will discuss what HTML5 is, the challenges it's facing, and how it affects other formats such as Adobe Flash and Microsoft Silverlight, as well as how leading platforms and web giants such as Google, Mozilla, and Apple are supporting it. The panel will convene on Wednesday, November 3 at 3:15 p.m.

Taylor's keynote will take place on Wednesday, November 3 at 9:00 a.m.
