SYRACUSE, N.Y.--()--SRC, Inc., formerly Syracuse Research Corporation, announced earlier this year that its president and CEO, Bob Roberts, would be retiring. The search committee of the Board of Trustees announced this week that Robert Behler will be named the new president and CEO. Behler will take over the reins on December 1, 2010. Tim McNamara and Bob Concannon, Managing Directors of Boyden global executive search, partnered with SRC in the search.
“We believe that Bob possesses the skills and experience that will lead SRC into the next era of success”
Behler comes to SRC with many years of experience in applying research and development for defense, environment and intelligence customers. He was most recently the senior vice president and general manager of the MITRE Corporation's Command and Control (C2) Center. The C2 Center serves MITRE's Department of Defense (DoD) sponsors and focuses on creating a joint command, control and communications system. Responsible for the definition and execution of the C2 strategy within the Air Force, Army, Navy, and joint and defense programs, including portfolio shaping and customer engagement, he has invaluable technical knowledge and, in addition to a distinguished military career, he has an in-depth understanding of the issues a DoD contractor faces.
Behler has a fascinating background that spans many technical disciplines. Before joining MITRE, he was the general manager of Precision Engagement at Johns Hopkins University's Applied Physics Laboratory. In that position, he supervised scientists and engineers working on command, control, intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (C2ISR) programs for the DoD with the goal of turning new and emerging technologies into transformational operational capabilities.
Before joining industry, Behler retired from the Air Force as a two-star general. During his distinguished 31-year military career, he accumulated extensive experience managing and developing advanced command, control, communications, computer, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) technologies at all levels. He was the commander of the Air Force C2ISR Center at Langley Air Force Base (AFB), where he was principal C2ISR advisor to the secretary and chief of staff of the Air Force. He also served as deputy commander of NATO Joint Headquarters North in Stavanger, Norway, and was the senior U.S. military officer in Scandinavia. In addition, Behler performed as director of command, control, communication, computers, and intelligence at the U.S. Strategic Command at Offutt AFB, and as chief of the U.S. Air Force Senate Liaison Office.
Behler is a distinguished graduate of the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps program at the University of Oklahoma. He is a command pilot with more than 5,000 flying hours in 65 types of aircraft, including the SR-71 and U-2,and has commanded the 31st Test and Evaluation Squadron, the 9th Operations Group, and the 9th Reconnaissance Wing.
“We believe that Bob possesses the skills and experience that will lead SRC into the next era of success,” stated Bob Roberts, current president and CEO of SRC. “SRC’s depth and breadth in various technology areas, coupled with execution capability, create a strong force that requires an equally strong leader who can integrate these with the not-for-profit advantage we offer our customers. Bob has this strength and I’m confident that our customers will continue to benefit from the innovative solutions we deliver.”
