DETROIT--()--This morning, Novak Druce + Quigg LLP Partner Nicholas Zachariades Ph.D. spoke on “The Shifting Landscape of Intellectual Property Law and Its Impact on the Future of Regenerative Medicine” at the Genetics Policy Institute’s World Stem Cell Summit in Detroit.

During the discussion, Dr. Zachariades explored issues specific to stem cell research, including the ways in which social considerations impact legal issues in stem cell patenting and the reexaminations of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF) stem cell patents. Dr. Zachariades also discussed how to initiate a patent reexamination, the impacts of reexamination on litigation and the importance of a well-executed patent application.
On Monday and Tuesday of the conference, Dr. Zachariades also hosted the “Demystifying Intellectual Property for Companies and Tech Transfer Offices” table at the “Conversations with Experts” luncheons. During the luncheons, conference attendees were able to ask for Dr. Zachariades’ insight into their own IP questions and issues.
Dr. Zachariades holds a Ph.D. in Cellular Immunology and has presented at both national and international scientific conferences. He was the recipient of many prestigious grants by the National Institutes of Health, the Cancer Research Institute and the Poliomyelitis Foundation. He was awarded a Major Impact Study grant for his work on HIV and neonatal vaccine responses. He holds a J.D. from the New England School of Law.
