Wireless Innovation Forum Hosts Successful “SCA Next Rollout” Meeting

Co-Sponsored by the JTRS Science and Technology Forum, Event Prompts Change Proposal Discussions Between Participants from Europe and North America

BRUSSELS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Wireless Innovation Forum (www.WirelessInnovation.org) today announced that the details of 22 change proposals under consideration for the next release of the Software Communications Architecture (SCA) were presented at a joint meeting held with the JTRS Science and Technology Forum. This successful meeting furthered the Forum’s mandate to act as the public liaison for the JPEO JTRS in the development of the next version of the SCA, and provided the first public access to many of the new features under discussion. The one and a half day meeting attracted more than 50 of the world’s leading authorities on SCA technology including participants from Canada, Finland, France, Germany, Spain and the United States.

“The importance placed by the JTRS SCA Next Working Panel on the technical contributions provided by the members of the Wireless Innovation Forum clearly illustrated the strength of our relationship and the potential for future coordination on international SCA-based standards.”

A summary of the change proposals considered at this meeting can be found at: http://sca.jpeojtrs.mil/scanext.asp. Included in the presentations were two direct contributions from WInnForum members based upon five Requests for Comment issued earlier this year by the SCA Next Task Group of the Forum’s Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards:

  • SCA Implementers Work Group Change Proposals for SCA Next (Document Number WINNF-10-RFI-0003)
  • Generalization of the Resource Factory Concept (Document Number WINNF-10-RFI-0005)

“I personally was inspired by the level of collaboration exhibited at this meeting,” stated Eric Nicollet, SDR Technical Lead at Thales and Co-Chair of the Forum’s Coordinating Committee on International SCA Standards. “The importance placed by the JTRS SCA Next Working Panel on the technical contributions provided by the members of the Wireless Innovation Forum clearly illustrated the strength of our relationship and the potential for future coordination on international SCA-based standards.”

Contributions to these documents were made by multiple Forum member organizations:

  • Communications Research Centre (Canada)
  • Datasoft (United States)
  • General Dynamics (United States)
  • Harris Corporation (United States)
  • ITT Industries (United States)
