Occam Networks Expands Product Portfolio With New ON 2505 and 2506 Indoor Optical Network Terminals

Addition of ON 2505 and 2506 Brings Occam’s ONTs Into Single Family Residences and SMB Environments to Manage the Convergence of Data and Devices

2010 FTTH Conference & Expo

LAS VEGAS--()--FTTH Conference and Expo – Occam Networks (NASDAQ:OCNW) today announced the addition of the ON 2505 and 2506 GPON Optical Network Terminals (ONTs) to its comprehensive intelligent ONT portfolio. The two new indoor ONTs are optimized for deployment in single family residences (SFRs) and small-to-medium businesses (SMB), allowing service providers to assist subscribers in the management of in-premise data networking and video distribution.

“Occam’s ON 2505 and 2506 gives service providers a great new option for bringing services into the home and accelerating the adoption of fiber-based broadband.”

The ON 2505 and 2506 prepare service providers to move the service delivery and monitoring point into the subscriber premise, empowering a future of additional value-added services. Delivering a complete triple-play offering with traditional voice, high-speed data and video services, such as HDTV, the ONTs can support both residential and business services.

In addition, the ON 2505 and 2506 also feature:

  • Support for bandwidth-intensive applications like on-demand video and gaming with four Ethernet LAN interfaces, and up to symmetric Gigabit speeds
  • Multiple options for IP-based voice service with configurations with either two or four voice ports
  • Flexible video support as the ON 2506 provides RF video delivery, or IPTV
  • Delivery of business class services such as TLS and QinQ
  • SimpleDC-power with AC power converter or monitored UPS options

“With the rise of new devices and multimedia applications in the home, indoor ONTs will be a growth market in North America in the next three years,” said Jeff Heynen, directing analyst for broadband and video at Infonetics Research. “Occam’s ON 2505 and 2506 gives service providers a great new option for bringing services into the home and accelerating the adoption of fiber-based broadband.”

Complementing the native IP and Ethernet architecture of the Occam BLC 6000, the ON 2505 and 2506 also provide service providers with operational expense and efficiency benefits. Both ONTs are fully managed by Occam’s Optical Line Terminal (OLT), enabling service providers to reduce the need for costly and time-consuming truck rolls. As new features and updates are needed, service providers will be able to simply upgrade or reconfigure the ON 2505 or 2506 from the CO or NOC.

“As the cost of deploying fiber continues to drop, the addition of indoor ONTs like Occam’s ON 2505 and 2506, which are far easier to install, will further strengthen the service provider’s business case for FTTP,” said Juan Vela, director of solutions marketing and strategy at Occam Networks. “By bringing ONTs into the home, maintenance and upgrades will no longer be limited by environmental issues like weather. These products are the next logical step in reducing the total cost of ownership of fiber deployments, allowing more subscribers to take advantage of the benefits of fiber while providing a basis for convergence of devices in the home.”

Occam will also be showcasing the new ONTs in Booth 312 at the FTTH Conference and Expo at the Venetian Resort Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas from September 12-16.
