SAN FRANCISCO--()--Digital Keystone announced today that it will demonstrate its Maelstrom™ distributed gateway to industry executives at the Intel Developer Forum in San Francisco. The Maelstrom distributed gateway enables branded premium TV content for the entire digital home, including TV, PC, Mac, tablet, and smartphone devices.
“We believe that the convergence of broadcast and broadband technologies is upon us. Network operators offer broadcast and “over the top”
Paolo Siccardo, President and CEO of Digital Keystone, said “Premium TV network operators are looking for new revenue opportunities by offering pay content and services to their subscribers on new digital home devices. The paradigm has shifted from 'multi-room' to the 'three screens' in the home: TV, PC and mobile. Maelstrom allows operators to reach all these devices with live and recorded premium content, offering a device-independent, user-specific experience. We are able to accomplish this milestone with the help of the powerful transcoding features of the Intel Atom CE4200 series silicon.”
Bob Ferreira, General Manager, Intel Cable Segment, said, “We believe that the convergence of broadcast and broadband technologies is upon us. Network operators offer broadcast and “over the top” solutions, and are now recognizing the need to integrate them into a flexible, secure content delivery system that takes advantage of the quality of broadcast and the flexibility of broadband. Digital Keystone’s Maelstrom Distributed Gateway represents a leading-edge solution that takes advantage of Intel technology to address the challenge of broadcast and broadband convergence with an innovative set of features.”
Digital Keystone’s Maelstrom is a distributed broadcast / broadband architecture that enables delivery of content services throughout all the digital home. The Maelstrom solution consists of a Maelstrom-enabled gateway and a Maelstrom-enabled synchronization server. The gateway converts broadcast services to the native format of each connected device. This means that viewers can immediately watch premium content on their TVs, PCs, iPads or iPhones without downloading any plug-ins, installing any applications, or configuring any custom code. With the addition of the synchronization server, the network operator can easily customize and control their service offerings, including search, recommendations, advertising and promotions, for a richer, friendlier viewer experience.
