FAIRFAX, Va.--()--FAAN (the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network) is delighted to announce that award-winning cookbook author Cybele Pascal and her husband, Broadway Star Adam Pascal, have teamed up with FAAN by becoming Ambassadors Who Care.
“Food allergies have completely changed my life”
Cybele Pascal is no stranger to the world of food allergies – she has garnered acclaim and a major following for her cookbooks, The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook and The Whole Foods Allergy Cookbook, which she wrote after her son, Lennon, was diagnosed with life-threatening allergies to milk and soy at 4 months of age. She found a lack of cookbooks that eliminated multiple food allergens, and decided to help fill that void.
Lennon, now 8, has since outgrown his milk and soy allergy, but developed allergies to other foods including tree nuts and shellfish. Cybele is allergic to tree nuts, shellfish, and other foods, and her husband Adam, along with their youngest son Monte, also have food allergies, making this family truly understand the importance of respecting every bite they eat.
“Food allergies have completely changed my life,” Cybele says. “I have made it my mission to help people with food allergies live as normal a life as possible, and to help create foods for them that are safe and delicious, so that they never feel deprived.”
Adam Pascal, best known for originating the role of Roger Davis in the award-winning Broadway production of Rent, which he later reprised on screen, said he and his family have taken a proactive approach to managing food allergies, but there are still obstacles.
“The biggest challenge has always been to provide our children with healthy, kid-friendly foods so that they are able to enjoy all the same things their friends do and not feel like the kid at the birthday party who brought his own carrots and rice cakes because he can’t eat cake or cookies,” he said.
Bringing a sense of normalcy is the biggest challenge for the Pascals, and millions of other families managing food allergies.
“The impact of food allergies on a family is difficult for others to understand, and that’s why we are so pleased that Cybele and Adam, who have such a personal connection to food allergy, will be working with us to raise awareness of this potentially fatal medical condition,” said FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher. “We look forward to working with the Pascals as we strive to educate Americans about the dangers of food allergy.”
Cybele and her family will be leading “Team LA” in FAAN’s Walk for Food Allergy in Los Angeles on Oct. 24. She also plans to walk in Chicago on Oct. 17th. At both Walks she will also be autographing copies of her book, The Allergen-Free Baker’s Handbook. Her book is available for purchase at www.foodallergy.org.
