PHILADELPHIA--()--Saint Joseph’s University and Campus Apartments announce a partnership to develop a new 413-bed freshman residence hall located at the southern entrance to the University’s 65-acre Philadelphia campus. Slated for completion by the Fall 2012 semester, the facility will provide new, attractive housing options for first-year students, and its prime location will allow it to serve as a gateway to the southern entrance, enhancing the University’s distinctive grounds.
“The new residence hall will help foster a positive experience for our freshmen, laying the foundation for the remainder of their time here.”
The project will allow Saint Joseph’s to offer premier on-campus residences to its incoming first-year students. “We always aim to provide a superior college experience, and housing plays an important role in student satisfaction,” stated Timothy R. Lannon, S.J., president of Saint Joseph’s University. “The new residence hall will help foster a positive experience for our freshmen, laying the foundation for the remainder of their time here.”
University administrators and Campus Apartments collaborated to develop a state-of-the-art facility that meets the needs of the modern student while acknowledging the architecture of the existing buildings and the University’s unique location. The resulting design, a mid-rise building featuring a tower element visible from City and Cardinal avenues, includes generous social and study spaces and fits contextually with the rest of campus. “It was important to us that this new building include the appropriate amenities for our students while enhancing our campus,” said Kevin Robinson, vice president of administrative services. “Campus Apartments, with its local ties and notable experience in developing innovative solutions for universities nationwide, provided a solution that is functional, financially feasible and will be a great addition to the Saint Joseph’s campus.”
Serving as developer and construction manager of the freshman residence hall, Campus Apartments will break ground in 2011. “Saint Joseph’s is one of our region’s leading universities and part of the fabric of our city,” said Daniel Bernstein, executive vice president and chief investment officer of Campus Apartments. “We relish the opportunity to partner with this great institution and to work on such an impactful project in our own backyard.”
Saint Joseph’s University and Campus Apartments will collaborate with a trusted and experienced project team, including PZS Architects, McCue Consulting and Hunt Engineering.
