AmStem Announces International Scientific and Medical Board of Advisors; Stem Cell Transplant Expert Dr. Philip Lowry and Korean Cord Blood Bank Pioneer Dr. Han Hoon Named as Co-Chairs

SAN FRANCISCO & SEOUL, Korea--(BUSINESS WIRE)--AmStem Corporation (OTCBB:AMSTE), a leading provider of biotherapeutic and cosmetic stem cell products, stem cell collection and storage expertise and access to nanotechnology vital to stem cell research, announced today the formation of its Scientific and Medical Board of Advisors with the leadership appointments of co-chairmen Dr. Philip A. Lowry from Pennsylvania and Dr. Han Hoon, founder and director of the company’s laboratory facility in Seoul, Korea.

“I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Lowry on stem cell projects in the past, and I consider his participation on AmStem’s SAMBA further validation of Dr. Hans’ work at AmStem”

Announcing the creation of the Scientific and Medical Board of Advisors (SAMBA), AmStem President Dwight Brunoehler said, “The leadership and scientific credentials of Dr. Han and Dr. Lowry, together with additional new members of this Board that will be announced shortly, will be instrumental in building strong international relationships and expanding scientific and business opportunities related to stem cell transplantation and regenerative medicine.

“I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Lowry on stem cell projects in the past, and I consider his participation on AmStem’s SAMBA further validation of Dr. Hans’ work at AmStem,” Brunoehler said.

Dr. Lowry stated, “AmStem and Dr. Han have a vision to develop sound medical platforms for using stem cell research to improve the quality and longevity of human life. The SAMBA will immediately begin reviewing AmStem’s extensive stem cell patent portfolio in preparation to meet USFDA and international standards and pave the way for their use in the clinical setting. In addition, the team is anxious to explore new areas in this rapidly developing area of science.”

Dr. Han Hoon, president of Histostem Korea said, “We are very fortunate to attract the talent of Dr. Lowry. His balanced experience in academic and community settings bring unique strengths to his role as medical advisor for AmStem. With almost two decades of experience in stem cell transplantation and as a participant in early research into basic stem cell biology, Dr. Lowry brings a wealth of experience in both the fundamental and practical aspects of stem cell transplantation.”

Dr. Lowry received his undergraduate degree from Harvard College before going on to Yale University School of Medicine. He trained in internal medicine at the University of Virginia and received fellowship training in hematology and oncology there as well. He has twice served on the faculty at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center from 1992-1996 and from 2004-2009 as an assistant and then associate clinical professor of medicine establishing the bone marrow and stem cell transplantation program there, pursuing research in stem cell biology. He then served as medical director of the Cryopreservation Lab supporting the transplant program, as well as teaching and coordinating the second year medical school course in hematology and oncology. Dr. Lowry has ten years of experience in the community practice of hematology and oncology.

Dr. Lowry recently was named Chief of Hematology/Oncology for the Guthrie Health System, a three-hospital tertiary care system serving northern Pennsylvania and southern New York State.
