Zhone Technologies to Showcase Industry-Leading MXK™ Solution, Other GPON and Active Ethernet Access Platforms at 2010 FTTH Conference and Expo

CTO Also Scheduled to Address Terabit Access Networks, Advise on Network Growth for Next 25 Years During Conference Session

2010 FTTH Conference & Expo

OAKLAND, Calif.--()--Zhone Technologies, Inc. (NASDAQ: ZHNE), a global pioneer in FTTx network access solutions, announced today that it will demonstrate its flagship MXK™ multi-service access node and Network Interface Device (zNID) solution at the 2010 FTTH Conference and Expo in Las Vegas, September 13-15, 2010, reinforcing – without question – that 2010 is the year that fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) and gigabit passive optical network (GPON) has become the technology of choice for service providers globally.

“Terabit Access Networks - Building Your Network for the Next 25 Years”

Zhone has established tremendous global momentum with GPON deployments in the past year, and leading industry analysts estimate that Zhone has outpaced every other vendor in the industry with more than 4500 percent year-over-year GPON growth from 2009 to 2010. The company has already surpassed 550 MXK optical line terminal (OLT) systems with deployments at over 100 service providers around the globe, enough capacity to provide connectivity for 5.5 million individual subscribers.

However, as Zhone’s Chief Technology Officer Eric Presworsky will explain during his conference presentation, there are still significant opportunities for service providers worldwide to not only satisfy current subscriber demand, but also anticipate the emerging service possibilities and future-proof their networks with the technologies available today.

As application bandwidths increase and carriers make considerable investments in FTTx access networks, many carriers are purely concentrating on how they may build a network to meet the current needs of their customers. While this discussion will address future access technologies, services, and applications in development that will be implemented in the next 25 years, Presworsky will specifically focus on 10GPON and 1G to the home. In addition, he will explore the potential of new technologies designed to offer bandwidths of up to 40G or 100G in the access optical distribution networks.

As Presworsky recently explained, “It is very possible that, after considering the new directions these technologies will go, carriers may want to re-engineer the future architecture of their access networks.”

To learn more from Presworsky, please attend the “Terabit Access Networks - Building Your Network for the Next 25 Years” session on Tuesday, September 14, 2010, from 3:15 pm to 4:00 pm PT.
