Houston News Anchor Dominique Sachse Joins FAAN’s Mission to Raise Awareness About Food Allergies

Houston’s Hometown Anchor Has Full-Time Commitment to Food Allergy Management

FAIRFAX, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--FAAN (The Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network) is pleased to announce that Emmy-nominated news anchor Dominique Sachse has teamed up with FAAN to help advocate for the millions of Americans with food allergies and help raise the profile of this potentially life-threatening medical condition by becoming one of its Ambassadors Who Care.

“Until there is a cure, we need to continue with our efforts to protect those with food allergies.”

Sachse, an award-winning journalist for Houston’s KPRC Local 2, has a personal connection to food allergies – her 5-year-old son recently outgrew his a milk allergy, which he was diagnosed with as an infant. She knows firsthand about the lifestyle changes and the challenges of raising a child with food allergies. She also realizes this medical condition is something that many Americans don’t understand.

“I find some people to be acutely aware and others to be completely in the dark on this subject,” Sachse said. “It just reminds me that the message needs to get out there with frequency, and as a journalist, I'm thrilled to have the platform to do that.”

This Saturday, Sept. 11, Sachse will serve as the Local Honorary Chair of the FAAN Walk for Food Allergy in Houston, and will work with FAAN to raise awareness and educate others.

“Dominique has connected with millions of Texans as ‘Houston’s Hometown Anchor’ and we are thrilled that she has joined us in our daily fight to increase awareness about this serious medical condition,” said FAAN CEO Julia Bradsher. “Until there is a cure, we need to continue with our efforts to protect those with food allergies.”

As a mother of a child who grew up with a food allergy, Sachse has an intimate familiarity with the adjustments that come with a food allergy diagnosis, such as the meticulous reading of ingredient labels and packing a safe treat for her son when he attends birthday parties.

“If my story helps another mom or family in the same situation, then I've given support to someone who might have felt they were dealing with this alone,” she said. “There's comfort in numbers.”
