DALLAS--()--Labor Day, commonly regarded as the last official day of summer and a day off of work, is better known for backyard barbeques and retail sales than anything having to do with its labor movement roots. This year though, the career experts at Everest College are urging Texans to spend a moment on Labor Day to reflect on their year’s worth of work, what they’ve accomplished, and to assess their work/life balance. For those seeking to improve their current situation, education can play a key role in creating a better work/life balance.
“It is possible to have a job that is in high demand, pays well, and offers flexibility”
“Our experience shows that those with less education often have to work longer hours and frequently hold down more than one job, just to make ends meet,” said Wendy Cullen, vice president of employer development for Everest College. “At Everest, we’ve come up with a four-step plan called ‘Get a L.I.F.E.’ to help people break this cycle and bring back the balance.”
Get a L.I.F.E.
For more than 40 years, Everest has helped place thousands of graduates in fulfilling positions, in every economic climate. The secret to helping others find fulfilling futures is all about getting a L.I.F.E.:
- Let go of your fears: “Taking the first step to a new career is the toughest part for most people,” Cullen said. “Many of our graduates will tell you that while it was hard to let go of the ‘safe’ options, it was crucial in their professional and personal development.” In other words, how can things ever change if you don’t take the steps to change them?
- Investigate your options: Labor Day weekend traditionally signifies the start of the school year, but many of today’s students, especially those returning to school, are far from traditional. By taking a second look at all the educational options available, students may find a path better suited to their needs. Everest offers accelerated learning, with many programs taking less than a year to complete. In addition, programs begin throughout the year, so students can choose an enrollment date that works best for them.
- Further your education: “Education is essential to improving professional prospects for almost anyone,” Cullen said. “It’s the key to everything – from getting a completely new career to moving up the pay scale at a current position.” Many programs are structured so that students can continue to work during the day while attending classes in the morning or evening, allowing them to further their career opportunities with minimal disruption to their lives.
- Enjoy your new job and your life: “It is possible to have a job that is in high demand, pays well, and offers flexibility,” Cullen said. “Everest helps people move from jobs to careers, and our graduates are living proof that it’s never too late to make a positive move.”
