GLENDALE, Ariz.--()--Arizona’s iconic green cab company, Discount Cab, is turning pink in the name of raising money and awareness for breast cancer and the American Cancer Society.
“Participating in this global campaign is our way of trying to improve those odds.”
As part of a two month-long fundraising drive, Discount Cab will designate a half dozen vehicles as “pink” vehicles, displaying a “Pink Ride” banner and donating $1 from each cab ride in the sponsored vehicles to benefit the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer.
The fundraising drive kicks off September 1 and runs until the end of October. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
“One out of every eight women in this country will be diagnosed with breast cancer,” said Craig Hughes, CEO of Total Transit, Inc., the parent company of Discount Cab. “Participating in this global campaign is our way of trying to improve those odds.”
Discount Cab has the goal of raising $5,500 to donate to the American Cancer Society. All “Pink Ride” passengers will receive an eye-catching decal that signifies their participation in the cause.
Discount Cab’s participation in the fundraising drive is part of a global campaign by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA), which counts 1,000 members (including Discount Cab) around the globe, to raise awareness and money for the effort.
Now in its 26th year of operation, Discount Cab is one of the largest cab companies in the Southwest, operating more than 500 cabs throughout Phoenix and Tucson.
