MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--()--Xbridge Systems redefines data discovery by releasing an industry first data discovery tool supporting mainframe systems. With the release of DataSniff, Xbridge provides QSA’s and internal auditors with a powerful, yet simple, tool to access mainframe data and scan the data for sensitive information. DataSniff www.xbridgesystems.com/products/productsDataSniff.html has the power to uncover data in mainframe data storage environments that were previously considered “untouchable” or wrongly categorized as “exempt” from audit.
“mainframe is the backbone of corporate computing.”
Mainframes often contain sensitive data, like credit card numbers, social security numbers, and other information that is covered by various industry and government standards and regulations. One prominent regulation is the Payment Card Industry’s Data Security Standard (PCI DSS). In fact, the new 2.0 release of the PCI DSS standard looks to broaden the exercise of scoping “data at rest,” prior to a PCI DSS assessment, in an effort to insure all cardholder data is accounted for. This enhanced scope will include the need to discover cardholder data in mainframe data storage environments. The anticipated changes in version 2.0 under “Scope of Assessment” are as follows:
“Ensure all locations of cardholder data are included in scope of PCI DSS assessments.”
“(Reinforcement of need for thorough scoping exercise prior to PCI DSS assessment in order to understand where cardholder data resides)”
The requirement to include all cardholder data locations means that mainframe data must be included in future PCI DSS assessments. DataSniff provides the unique capability to discover cardholder data on mainframe systems.
The move from “security–centric” risk management to “data–centric” risk management is the impetus for the creation of DataSniff as customers realize the significance of “knowing their data.” An accurate scope of data will provide the necessary foundation for a precise assessment and a successful compliance initiative. As a result, DataSniff is finding immediate interest with mainframe security professionals at many Fortune 100 companies.
“Mainframe data is too often ignored in any compliance and data loss prevention strategy,” said Robert Clyde, Managing Partner, Clyde Consulting, LLC, and former Symantec CTO. “As far as I can tell, Xbridge’s DataSniff is the only mainframe data discovery tool in the market. They provide a unique and crucial capability to include mainframe data in a compliance and DLP strategy.”
Gene Amdahl and Ray Williams, former CEO and CFO respectively, of Amdahl Corporation, acknowledge that mainframe data continues to grow at a phenomenal rate and much of the data contains critical corporate information. As a result, an enterprise-wide DLP solution must include the mainframe and Xbridge Systems is the only mainframe DLP solution in the market today.
IBM confirms the significance of mainframe data as Gordon Rapkin details in IBM Systems Magazine, October 2006, “More than 80 percent of corporate data resides on mainframes, and IBM's "Big Iron" mainframe is the backbone of corporate computing."
Omar Khawaja of Verizon Business outlines a new set of best practices toward the following data-centric approach: 1) Identify target systems to protect; 2) Discover data on target systems; 3) Discover vulnerabilities on target systems; and 4) Prepare final report.
DataSniff will provide the necessary detail for an accurate final report.
DataSniff
DataSniff, data discovery software, can be installed and deployed in less than one day. Once deployed, scans of your data can be enabled immediately. A scalable architecture and simple concise dashboard allows for efficient handling of complex storage environments. Terabytes of data can be handled with ease, and detailed reports can be generated to manage the scope and progress of the data discovery project. DataSniff also provides open connectivity with other DLP solutions allowing enterprise organizations to leverage their existing DLP installations.

Company History
Co-founded in 1994 by Dr. Gene Amdahl and Raymond A. Williams, Jr., as Commercial Data Servers, the Company's first product was a next-generation S/390 mainframe server. Used by customers to meet Y2K conversion challenges, these departmental servers began shipping in 1997. Xbridge Systems is currently focused on delivering software for universal data access and discovery, whether the information is in old legacy systems, newer database formats, or storage devices.
