WhipTail Tech Announces Latest Release of Racerunner Operating System

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--WhipTail Tech, manufacturer of the enterprise-class XLR8r solid-state SAN appliances, has announced the latest version of its Racerunner Operating System (RROS) for the Virtual Desktop and Datacenter XLR8r appliances – Generation 4 (G4). This updated platform release is the culmination of months of data analysis and performance tuning on WhipTail’s patented RROS, with the end result being dramatic increases in write IOPs as well as a reduction in latency. With the proliferation of both desktop and server virtualization, the IOP speeds of writes is critical in order to provide acceptable performance and, the new RROS offers 250,000 IOPS at 4K size for crypto logically random data.

In addition to being able to support the new write IOP load, the G4 release will offer dramatic performance enhancements in its deduplication engine. “Our clients are seeing tremendous storage savings and efficiency by utilizing our in-line dedupe engine. They’re taking 10 terabytes of data (much of it repetitive OS data in VM environments) and minimizing it to just several hundred gigs – making the G4 version of the RROS even more compelling,” said Candelaria

The G4 version of the RROS platform will be available in Q4 of this year. The G4 platform will be available on WhipTail’s Datacenter XLR8r and Virtual Desktop XLR8r, which are available at prices starting at $49,000 for 1.5 TB.
