Utah Lieutenant Governor Announces New Online Notary Service

Convenient Way to Become a Notary at http://notary.utah.gov

SALT LAKE CITY--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Utah’s Office of the Lieutenant Governor today announced a new notary service is now available on the state’s official website at http://notary.utah.gov. The new site allows for a notary exam to be taken online, allowing individuals to become a notary or renew a notary commission.

“Notaries provide an important service, and we want to help them comply with all proper notary procedures.”

Once applicants feel prepared for the test, they can complete the online process in about an hour. The site also provides a new “notary study guide” that can be used before and during the test, and includes the “Top Ten Mistakes of Notaries Public.” The online tools assist notaries in obtaining knowledge of what he or she is permitted to do as a notary and how to properly perform these duties.

“Utah is once again leading out on its online services. This new service – in addition to offering an added convenience to notaries – increases efficiency and effectiveness of state government operations,” said Lieutenant Governor Greg Bell. “Notaries provide an important service, and we want to help them comply with all proper notary procedures.”

Once applicants have taken the test and paid the fee, they may immediately view their test results. If the test is passed, the application can be printed and signed. A few additional requirements must be met, including obtaining a notary bond before receiving a notary commission. After the Lieutenant Governor’s Office receives the required documents, approved notaries will receive a commission in one to two weeks.

Performing the duties of a notary public can be a much more complex undertaking than the public may imagine. This online notary exam process assists notaries in obtaining knowledge of what he or she is permitted to do as a notary and how to properly perform these duties.

The new notary service was developed in partnership with Utah Interactive, LLC, a Salt Lake City-based company that specializes in online government services and is a subsidiary of eGovernment provider NIC (NASDAQ: EGOV).
