WASHINGTON--()--The Council for Citizens Against Government Waste Political Action Committee (CCAGWPAC) today congratulated Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) for his victory in clinching the Republican party’s nomination for United States Senate in Arizona. The CCAGWPAC endorsed Sen. McCain on February 24, 2010.
“Senator McCain has been a stalwart taxpayer ally and leader in the war on waste”
“Senator McCain has been a stalwart taxpayer ally and leader in the war on waste,” said CCAGWPAC Chairman Tom Schatz. “His 2009 CCAGW Congressional Rating of 99 percent ties him for the third highest in the U.S. Senate. After 23 years in the Senate that record is especially impressive, since the longer a legislator stays in Washington, the more likely he or she is to vote for more spending and higher taxes. Sen. McCain has been an outspoken proponent for smaller, more efficient government throughout his Senate and House career. He has been especially steadfast in sticking to those values after the big spenders took charge of all of the levels of government in January 2009.”
“Sen. McCain was anti-earmark before being anti-earmarking was considered cool. He has offered dozens of amendments to eliminate pork-barrel projects, often with little support from his colleagues but always with the gratitude of the American people. Taxpayers have Sen. McCain him to thank for the fact that, slowly but surely, members of Congress are finding it harder and harder to get away with funding their egregious earmarks. Taxpayers have Sen. McCain to thank for the fact that lawmakers are now being held more accountable for their spending choices. Taxpayers have Sen. McCain to thank for the fact that there is constant pressure being brought to bear on Congress and this administration to be even more transparent. There is much more to do to rein in runaway federal spending. Taxpayers from Arizona, indeed around the nation, need Sen. McCain to remain in Washington, taking the battle to the enemy in the war on waste, as he has always done. CCAGWPAC is proud to be among the first national taxpayer organizations’ PACs to endorse Sen. McCain, and we encourage every voter in Arizona to support Sen. McCain in the general election,” concluded Schatz.
CCAGWPAC is affiliated with the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste, a 501(c)(4) organization. CCAGWPAC’s mission is to support political candidates who will fight to eliminate waste, fraud, and abuse in government and represent the best interests of taxpayers.
