SAN ANTONIO--()--Cybersecruty and healthcare discussions highlighted the final day of CompTIA Breakaway 2010, the premier event for information technology (IT) channel companies in North America, which closed here Thursday.
“You have to have a coherent plan and strategy and you have to work toward that plan”
More than 1,000 industry leaders were in attendance at the annual conference sponsored by CompTIA, the non-profit trade association for the IT industry.
Highlighting day four of Breakaway 2010 was the inaugural CompTIA Cybersecurity Summit.
The summit keynote address was delivered by Mark Cohn, vice president, enterprise security, Unisys Corporation, who discussed security concerns and considerations from the public and private sector perspectives.
“You have to have a coherent plan and strategy and you have to work toward that plan,” Cohn advised. “Where are your vulnerabilities to business survival? Figure out what your weakest link is and fix it. Resilience, ultimately, is what cybersecurity comes down to.”
The cybersecurity summit also included two panel discussions – the first on how the private and public sectors can work together to mitigate the number and impact of cyber threats; and the second on security issues related to cloud computing.
A three-day educational track at Breakaway 2010 on opportunities for IT companies in the healthcare market concluded Thursday with a session on how to become a trusted technology advisor to healthcare providers.
Patti Dodgen, chief executive officer off healthcare systems integrator Hielix, said IT companies need to do their homework before entering the healthcare IT market. She advised technology solution providers to study the specific and peculiar needs each medical practice or specialty will have. For example, surgical practices will perform 95 percent of services in a hospital, compared to plastic surgeons and dermatologists who may have significant work in their offices.
Breakaway 2010 offered technology companies a unique stage to promote their products, recruit business partners and interact with more than 1,000 conference attendees. Educational tracks at the conference covered key technology areas such as healthcare IT, cybersecurity, green IT, and managed IT services. The event also provided a unique forum for peer-to-peer networking among business leaders, who shared ideas on how to grow an IT business.
Platinum Level sponsors of Breakaway 2010 include Autotask, Cisco Systems Inc., ConnectWise, Ingram Micro, Intronis Inc., itControl Solutions Inc., McAfee, Motorola, SYNNEX Corporation and Xerox.
