CompTIA CEO Unveils New Programs to Help IT Channel Companies Learn, Connect and Succeed

Delivers keynote address at Breakaway 2010

CompTIA Breakaway 2010

SAN ANTONIO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--New educational programs aimed at helping information technology (IT) businesses raise their levels of productivity and professionalism will be launched in the coming months by CompTIA, the top executive of the industry’s leading non-profit trade association announced here today.

“We hope healthcare IT will be just the first of many high quality foundational educational offerings we’ll produce”

“It’s all about increasing the level of professionalism in the IT channel,” CompTIA president and chief executive officer Todd Thibodeaux said. “Companies in our industry should not be defined by the lowest common denominator. Instead, we want every CompTIA member to be viewed as ‘best in class.’”

To support the initiative CompTIA’s board of directors has committed to invest additional funding of nearly $1 million over the next three years.

Thibodeaux’s remarks came today during his keynote speech at Breakaway 2010, the premier event for IT companies in North America. More than 1,000 industry leaders are attending the annual conference this week.

“We’re committed to providing you with the most valuable and impactful member benefits we can, to provide you with tools and resources to help you learn, connect and succeed,” Thibodeaux told attendees.

Initial new educational offerings will center on healthcare IT, he said.

New research from CompTIA presented this week at Breakaway suggests that medical professionals are interested in array of technology solutions. For example, 43 percent of healthcare providers surveyed said implementing an electronic medical records system is a high priority. Also, just 19 percent of doctors reported using email to remind patients of appointments, but 43 percent want to do so.

“We hope healthcare IT will be just the first of many high quality foundational educational offerings we’ll produce,” Thibodeaux said. “We envision an educational catalog full of programs on sales and marketing, financial management, solution selling, cloud computing, services management, government markets and many others.”

Breakaway 2010 continues through Thursday, Aug. 12.

Platinum Level sponsors of Breakaway 2010 include Autotask, Cisco Systems Inc., ConnectWise, Ingram Micro, Intronis Inc., itControl Solutions Inc., McAfee, Motorola, SYNNEX Corporation and Xerox.

The Gold Level sponsor of Breakaway 2010 is Kaseya.

Silver Level sponsors include Doyenz, Inc., eGestalt Technologies Inc., Intel, N-able Technologies, OnForce, Worldwide TechServices and Yfactor.
