New England Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates Receives HopeLine Law Enforcement Partnership Award from Verizon Wireless

Honor Presented at FBINAA’s Annual Conference, Recognizes Work in Domestic Violence Prevention; Verizon Wireless Makes a $10,000 Grant to Family Justice Center of Boston

WILMINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Honoring the efforts of public safety officials who have demonstrated extraordinary commitment and focus on preventing domestic violence and raising awareness in their communities, Verizon Wireless presented the New England Chapter of FBI National Academy Associates, Inc. (FBINAA) with a HopeLine® Law Enforcement Partnership Award at FBINAA’s annual convention in Boston, Massachusetts.

“Verizon Wireless is proud to recognize the New England chapter of the FBINAA with the HopeLine Law Enforcement Partnership Award”

FBINAA is a non-profit, international organization of nearly 18,000 senior law enforcement professionals dedicated to providing the highest degree of law enforcement expertise, training, education and information. Membership in the Association is limited only to those law enforcement leaders who have completed the FBI’s prestigious National Academy Program.

In addition to the award and in honor of the work of the New England Chapter of the FBINAA, Verizon Wireless made a HopeLine grant of $10,000 to the Family Justice Center of Boston (FJC). The FJC, a program of the Boston Public Health Commission, is comprised of on-site partners including the Suffolk County District Attorney's Office, the Family Justice Division of the Boston Police Department and several non-profit organizations that support victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and human trafficking. This donation will provide for enhancements to the FJC's on-site training space where over 3,000 professionals attended training in 2009.

Verizon Wireless is a corporate leader recognized for its commitment to preventing domestic violence and raising awareness of the issue through the company’s HopeLine program. HopeLine collects no-longer-used wireless phones and accessories from any wireless service provider then recycles them in an environmentally sound manner. The resulting funds are used to provide wireless phones and service to be used by domestic violence survivors and financial support for non-profit advocacy agencies.

"Verizon Wireless is proud to recognize the New England chapter of the FBINAA with the HopeLine Law Enforcement Partnership Award,” said Gabe Esposito, director, corporate security and business continuity at Verizon Wireless. “FBI National Academy’s graduates are dedicated to keeping our local communities safe, with many working specifically on behalf of victims of domestic violence. It’s only fitting that the grant to the Family Justice Center of Boston will be used to further enhance their training space, since training is the hallmark of the FBINAA."

HopeLine has recycled more than 7 million phones since the launch of the cell phone recycling program in 2001. As a result, the program has been able to distribute more than 90,000 phones with more than 300 million minutes of free wireless service to be used by victims of domestic violence nationwide.
