American Career College to Offer Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Health Information Technology

COSTA MESA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--American Career College President Al Nederhood today announced that it will offer an Associate of Occupational Science (AOS) Degree in Health Information Technology at its Anaheim campus beginning May 2010. The degree, which can be utilized to obtain positions such as health data analyst, insurance claims analyst, records technician specialist, clinical coding specialist, and patient information coordinator,* is designed to prepare students to play a critical role in maintaining, collecting and analyzing the data that doctors, nurses and other healthcare providers rely on to deliver quality healthcare.

American Career College’s Associate of Occupational Science Degree in Health Information Technology program takes approximately 20 months to complete. The training program is divided into eight 10-week quarters and is a blended schedule consisting of courses taken on campus and online. The program is composed of general education, anatomy and physiology, core health information technology, and clinical practicum courses. Each quarter is comprised of prescribed subjects or studies that build upon each other. As part of the program, each student will be provided with a personal laptop for course use, along with an American Career College carrying case for easy transport. Program entrance requirements include an entrance exam, high school diploma or the equivalent, and scores of 150 or higher on the CPAt exam and 70% or higher on the Hesi exam.

In addition, the Health Information Technology AOS degree program at the Orange County campus is in candidacy status, pending accreditation review by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).*
