SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation Enhances Television Broadcasts of March Madness™

SportsMEDIA Integrates Clock, Score & Statistics for Conference Tournaments and the Final Four

DURHAM, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--SportsMEDIA Technology Corporation, the award-winning provider of graphics, statistics and video enhancement solutions, today announced that it will provide the underlying technology that integrates and instantaneously publishes live scores and statistics for more than 100 basketball games during March Madness. SportsMEDIA’s technology seamlessly tracks and synchronizes clock, score and statistics for college basketball fans, whether viewing live or at home, to provide a deeper understanding of the games and the implications of the athletes’ performances.

“Our system goes far beyond just communicating score information. We strive to put the game in context for producers so that fans can have the fullest, most enjoyable experience.”

SportsMEDIA’s Autograph Clock and Score System captures data from game clocks and play clocks during the games. SportsMEDIA’s Data Matrix (DMX) Switchboard integrates real-time in-game statistics with pre-loaded season and career statistics for each basketball player. The scores and statistics are then redistributed and instantly published by SportsMEDIA’s Data Distribution & Publishing System for use by broadcast companies’ graphics systems and by television broadcast talent as they narrate the game for viewers watching from home. With SportsMEDIA’s help, broadcast studios can report on every game instantaneously allowing fans to track progress of multiple games that are being played simultaneously.

SportsMEDIA has been selected by CBS Sports, CBS College, DirecTV, Raycom Sports, Versus and MountainWest Sports Network as their real-time data and statistics integration partner for their broadcasts of the conference and national tournaments. SportsMEDIA will support multiple conference tournaments, including the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC), Atlantic 10, Conference USA, Big 10, Pac 10, Mountain West and CBS’ broadcasts of the NCAA Division I and II tournaments.

According to a recent Unicast survey, 83 percent of fans will watch tournament coverage on television.

The integration of live basketball scores and statistics from each tournament site will take place at SportsMEDIA’s Data Operations Center (DOC) in Durham, North Carolina. The DOC has been outfitted with three levels of redundancy to ensure that game clock and score information is available on television 100 percent of the time.

“SportsMEDIA has served as the backbone for integrating live statistical information for March Madness for the past 12 years,” said Don Tupper, vice president of SportsMEDIA. “Our system goes far beyond just communicating score information. We strive to put the game in context for producers so that fans can have the fullest, most enjoyable experience.”

March Madness began on March 16, 2010 with the 2010 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

The national championship is determined as top college teams compete for a position in the Final Four, to be held on April 3, 2010 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. The championship game will be held April 5, 2010.
