“a habitual entrepreneur who likes to start Internet communications companies.”
Panelists include Alexis Maybank, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer, Gilt Groupe; Bronwyn Barnes, Associate Entertainment Editor, InStyle.com; Kimberly Miller, Vice President of Consumer Marketing, People StyleWatch; and Meredith Fisher, Editorial Brand Director, Diane von Furstenberg Studio L.P. The panel will be moderated by GPPR’s co-founder Deirdre Sullivan, a social media expert who co-created the Fashion 2.0 Social Media Awards that took place on February 10th in New York City.
"During the course of 2009, we have explored the effects of Twitter on a wide range of topics including Celebrity, The Media, Advertising, Politics, Music, Education, Public Safety and Public Diplomacy,” said Jeff Pulver, Founder of #140conf. “The #140conf events provide a platform for the worldwide Twitter community to listen, connect, share and engage with each other, while collectively exploring the effects of the emerging real-time Internet on business."
Attendees at the two day annual conference on April 20th and 21st will explore ‘The State of NOW’: the effects the worldwide adoption of social communication platforms such as Twitter, is having on a number of industries. The #140 Character Conferences have become one of the most recognized social media events of the year, where attendees get to network with other social media leaders. The conferences have taken place in Los Angeles, London, Tel Aviv, and Barcelona.
“Twitter has quickly become essential reading for me,” said Alexis Maybank, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Gilt Groupe. “It’s surprising that 140 characters or less can provide a world of information from so many different voices. In the world of fashion, I can get as-it-happens information from designers, magazine editors, stylists, bloggers, beauty artists, and models, all of whom are providing vital insights to how the fashion business runs. Additionally, it is a great way to have one to one contact with Gilt members. I think our members really enjoy the access to me and my co-founder Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, who is also on Twitter.”
Guest Speakers at this year’s conference include Ann Curry, Anchor, NBC News; Bruce Upbin, Managing Editor, Forbes; Dennis Crowley, Co-Founder, Four Square; Donny Deustch; Gary Vanderchuck, Host of Wine Library TV; Ivanka Trump; Jeffrey Hayzlett, CMO, Kodak; Joan Walsh, Editor of Salon; John Borthwick, CEO, Betaworks; Liz Strauss, Founder of SOBCon; Matthew Bishop, The Economist; MC Hammer; Ryan Penagos, Writer / Editor at Marvel.com, Tim Ferriss, Author of New York Times best seller “The Four Hour Work Week”, and Tim Armstrong, CEO, AOL.
"We are thrilled to co-host this first time fashion panel event with Jeff Pulver at the #140conf in New York City this year,” said Deirdre Sullivan, Co-Founder of Gritty Pretty PR and Panel Moderator. “We have such an incredible cast of panelists that truly exemplify our theme of how Twitter and Social Media are changing the way consumers interact with fashion, whether it’s online retail, publishing, or a designer brand."
The format at the #140conf events is unique. Individual talks are 5 and 10 minutes, keynotes are 15 and 20 minutes and panel discussions are no more than 20 minutes. During the course of the two days more than 140 people will share the stage at the 92nd Street Y in about 70 sessions. This year’s panel discussions include Fixing America’s Voting System: One Tweet at a Time, Interacting With the Television Audience in Real Time, Twitter and Emergency Communications, Twitter and the Fashion Industry, Twitter and Education, Twitter and Brands, Social Communications and Radio, Reality TV Show Production Companies, and Where Am I?: How Location Changes Everything.
