Association of Hole in the Wall Camps and the Hole in the Wall Foundation Name New President and CEO

John Reid brings 25 years of nonprofit experience to international charity

NEW HAVEN, Conn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Association of Hole in the Wall Camps and the Hole in the Wall Foundation are pleased to announce the appointment of John Reid as their new President and CEO. John assumes the role from Ray Empson who is retiring from the organization.

“I am confident that he will guide the Association and Foundation through the next phase of our development, one that will bring the extraordinary experience of camp to more children in more places around the world and help fulfill Paul Newman’s legacy.”

John comes to the Association of Hole in the Wall Camps – the international family of camps for children with serious illnesses, founded by Paul Newman – from Childhelp, a national organization focused on the prevention and treatment of child abuse. He served as their Executive Director for 5 years. Prior to that, he was the President and CEO of FamiliesFirst in California. John has an extensive background in nonprofit leadership and brings a wealth of knowledge and international experience from executive roles at CARE, World Vision and Christian Aid. John holds a master’s degree in Public Administration from the University of Washington and he taught Leadership and Ethics at Arizona State University. “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining such an outstanding organization, especially given its inspiring mission and the incredible impact it has on children’s lives,” said John on his new position. He is moving with his wife and daughter to Connecticut from Paradise Valley, Arizona.

“John’s experience will be invaluable to our organization’s future,” said David Horvitz, Chair of the Board for the Hole in the Wall Foundation. “I am confident that he will guide the Association and Foundation through the next phase of our development, one that will bring the extraordinary experience of camp to more children in more places around the world and help fulfill Paul Newman’s legacy.”
