Western Iowa Networks Chooses ADC's FTTH Solutions To Upgrade Its Broadband Networks In Rural Communities

  • Company Provides Broadband Services to Communities in Western and Southwestern Iowa
  • ADC’s Solutions Used to Build High-Speed Fiber Optic Network
  • City of Carroll, Iowa, is First Phase of Network Deployment

MINNEAPOLIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--ADC (NASDAQ: ADCT) (www.adc.com), a leading supplier of infrastructure solutions for fiber deployments, announced today that Western Iowa Networks (WIN), an independent telephone company providing broadband services to communities in western and southwestern Iowa, has selected ADC’s equipment to overbuild the city of Carroll, Iowa with Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH). The company’s competitive local exchange carrier (CLEC), BTC, Inc., doing business as Western Iowa Networks, began the first phase of the network upgrade in September 2009. The project is expected to be completed in late 2010 to early 2011. The network upgrade is funded in part by the Rural Utilities Service (RUS) Broadband Loan Program.

“ADC is a leader in providing FTTH solutions that help independent carriers meet the growing demand for broadband services in today’s digital world”

“We selected ADC equipment for our FTTH deployment because we wanted to provide advanced services for our customers that they couldn’t get otherwise,” said Chuck Deisbeck, CEO for Western Iowa Networks. “Having worked with the company in the past, we knew ADC provided highly reliable equipment and superior support that we can always count on. It also played a role in planning our initial deployment. As we expand our FTTH program in other communities, ADC’s products will continue to be integrated with other equipment to provide the best possible solution for our customers.”

The Carroll, Iowa, deployment features ADC’s Next Generation Frame (NGF) optical distribution frame, NGF Plug-and-Play splitters, FiberGuide® system, Fiber Entrance splice Cabinet (FEC), and TracerLight® fiber patchcords for easy connector identification in the central office. In addition, OmniReach® Fiber Distribution Hubs (FDH) are being used in the outside plant. ADC’s innovative Fiber-to-the-X (FTTX) solutions have been deployed by more than 400 customers throughout the U.S.

ADC offers complete, end-to-end network infrastructure solutions for FTTX networks that save time and money, and help improve customer satisfaction. The product portfolio offers indoor and outdoor environmental protection; advanced cable management; time-saving cross-connect options; field-proven performance and reliability; pre-terminated and plug-and-play options; and adheres to rigorous quality standards. “ADC is a leader in providing FTTH solutions that help independent carriers meet the growing demand for broadband services in today’s digital world,” said Jaxon Lang, vice president of Global Connectivity Solutions - Americas for ADC. “We’re pleased to be selected by Western Iowa Networks and to help them enhance their customers’ Internet experience for video streaming, online gaming or any other bandwidth-intensive application they may want to enjoy.”

Vantage Point, a leading consulting firm for the telecommunications industry, provided consulting services and project management for the fiber deployment in Carroll. The company, which focuses on small rural carriers, also will support WIN as it rolls out fiber to its other seven exchanges.

“Vantage Point has provided services to carriers in more than 25 states and as part of those programs we have recommended ADC solutions to help meet our customers’ needs,” said Darren Dierbeck, vice president of customer relations for Vantage Point. “Overall, we’ve had good experiences with ADC products for all our customers.”
