HOUSTON--()--Alpheus Communications, operator of one of the largest fiber optic networks in Texas, announces today the completion of a major fiber ring in North and West Harris County. The new fiber represents valuable new Houston footprint in the high-tech FM249 area as well as the Energy Corridor and adjacent to major wireless tower sites. Paul Hobby, CEO of Alpheus said, “These new geographies are more and more important to the regional economy and we made the necessary investment to be there.”

Over the last twelve months, Alpheus has completed a number of fiber sales transactions with enterprise and carrier customers around the state. Dark fiber is an increasingly precious commodity as bandwidth demand continues to grow sharply in spite of challenging economic conditions. Increased storage requirements, 3G and 4G cellular networks, internet video and teleconferencing have been the primary drivers of that increase.
