SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Today, VICINI and the INICIA Foundation announced an immediate cash donation of US$1 million and began a massive drive to collect millions of dollars to help Haiti.
According to Felipe A. Vicini, executive president of VICINI, “The recovery from this tragedy must be a global effort and we are committed to contribute with all means possible to this cause. We are making a coordinated effort through our companies to provide essential aid for our Haitian neighbors. This assistance to our brother nation will substantially help them recover from the devastation caused by the earthquake.”
Amelia Vicini, president of the INICIA Foundation made a call to all the nation’s businesses people and to all Dominicans to unify the relief effort for Haiti. The Foundation has opened accounts “FUNDACION INICIA, INC. CUENTA DAMNIFICADOS HAITI” at Banco BHD (Account Number: 0101-1042435-002-8) and Banco León (Account Number: 9872557), to collect funds to bring aid to the victims of the disaster. The monies collected will be matched up to US$1 million by the Foundation to increase the financial assistance to the Haitian citizens. The funds will be directed to institutions like Save the Children, UNICEF and Red Cross.
In addition, another US$5 million is being donated by VICINI in products, services and technical personnel. This includes a million rations of milk from PARMALAT, more than 100,000 pounds of sugar from CAEI and US$1 million in rebar from METALDOM. Also, technicians from EGE-Haina in coordination with the CDEEE are working to restore the electrical power to Port-au-Prince. The Group’s PLANETA AZUL bottled water company, through the Haitian Embassy, United Nations and the Ministry of Public Health, has offered all the necessary water to meet the demands of Haiti in this time of extreme emergency.
Also, the staffs of VICINI and its affiliates have been making cash donations in the account of Banco del Progreso (US$ Account Number: 016-001700-5). The VICINI family through the INICIA Foundation to further increase the aid for the Haitian nation will also match these employee donation funds.
