St. Luke’s Episcopal Health System Selects Toshiba Imaging Equipment for New Lakeside Hospital

Toshiba Products Improve Diagnostic Confidence and Accuracy in Cardiovascular and Orthopedic Imaging

TUSTIN, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital of The Woodlands, Texas has chosen Toshiba America Medical Systems, Inc. to provide magnetic resonance (MR), ultrasound, computed tomography (CT), X-ray and vascular equipment for its newly built surgical hospital.

“We chose Toshiba equipment for its ability to produce high quality images, as well as handle the more challenging cases we see.”

St. Luke’s Lakeside is a collaboration between St. Luke's Episcopal Health System and area cardiovascular and orthopedic/spine specialists. With a focus on providing comprehensive cardiac and orthopedic care, physicians requested the latest in medical imaging technology for the six surgical suites and three cardiac catheterization labs.

To meet its unique imaging needs, St. Luke’s Lakeside has installed Toshiba’s Vantage Titan™ MR system, Aplio Artida™ ultrasound system, Aquilion® CX CT system, two Infinix™-i cath labs and a Kalare™ R&F system.

“Our goal with this facility was to build a place that is at the forefront of medical innovation. To do this we needed imaging equipment that could image patients regardless of their size or special needs and still produce high quality images that would improve diagnostic confidence and accuracy,” said Diane McNamee, CNO and assistant vice president, St. Luke’s Lakeside Hospital. “We chose Toshiba equipment for its ability to produce high quality images, as well as handle the more challenging cases we see.”

For its orthopedic procedures, St. Luke’s Lakeside chose the Titan MR and Kalare R&F system.

  • With its ultra short, open bore, Titan offers the industry’s largest clinical field-of-view (55×55×50 cm). The open bore not only reduces the feeling of claustrophobia for patients, but allows technologists the ability to properly position coils, which is critical in orthopedic imaging.
  • With the Kalare, physicians have the latest in innovative R&F technology for improving staff productivity and patient care.

To address its cardiovascular needs, St. Luke’s Lakeside selected the Aplio Artida, Infinix-i and the Aquilion CX.

  • Using Artida’s real-time, multi-planar reformatting capabilities, physicians can assess global and regional left ventricle (LV) function, including volumetric LV ejection fraction. Arbitrary views of the heart, not available in 2D imaging, are also obtained to help with surgical planning. The 3D Wall Motion Tracking features allow the user to obtain angle-independent, global and regional information about myocardial contraction.
  • The design of the Infinix VF-i/SP, featuring the unique floor mounted five-axis C-arm, allows for extremely versatile, fast movement for unprecedented patient access; quickly providing head-to-toe and fingertip-to-fingertip coverage during critical procedures.
  • The Infinix VF-i/BP is a floor-mounted frontal/ceiling-mounted lateral biplane system featuring multi-axis positioners with unique movement capabilities. These features allow physicians to complete procedures quickly and comfortably, reducing procedure times and improving overall departmental workflow.
  • The Aquilion CX is a next generation 64-detector row CT system featuring faster reconstruction standards with up to 28 images per second, Toshiba’s proven Quantum Advantage detector technology and a patient couch that can accommodate up to 660 lbs, making it ideal for bariatric as well as cardiovascular imaging.

“Toshiba’s commitment to image quality and patient care is exemplified by St. Luke’s Lakeside selecting our equipment for all of their imaging needs,” said Girish Hagan, vice president, Marketing, Toshiba. “We look forward to continuing to work with St. Luke’s Lakeside and meeting the imaging needs of its physicians and patients.”
