OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--()--Sylvia Wulf has been named to oversee the food safety business unit of Nutrition Physiology Company, LLC (NPC), an Overland Park, Kan.-based maker of all-natural, pathogen-fighting products for the beef, dairy and food processing industries.

Wulf’s appointment comes as NPC finalizes development of a next-generation, all-natural food safety intervention that will help reduce and prevent the growth of pathogens that cause foodborne illness. The new product line also will help slow the growth of bacteria that hasten food spoilage.

“Processors of fresh meat, poultry, produce and processed meats are eager to identify affordable, effective interventions to prevent foodborne illness, particularly all-natural alternatives,” Wulf said. “NPC’s next-generation food safety products fit the bill. And they have the capacity to lead the marketplace.”

“Sylvia brings deep experience in the food industry,” said Pete Anderson, CEO of NPC. “As chief of our food safety business unit, Sylvia will prioritize our market opportunities, and target our R&D, manufacturing and sales resources to ensure our new food safety products become a fixture in the war against foodborne pathogens.”

Previously, Wulf was senior vice president and assistant to the CEO at Tyson Foods, Inc., of Springdale, Ark. There, she led growth and turnaround initiatives domestically and internationally. Wulf also served as general manager for Tyson’s deli business, and was responsible for the group’s bottom line and growth strategies.

Prior to her tenure at Tyson Foods, Wulf led business components of Bakery Chef, a Chicago-based frozen foods manufacturer; Sara Lee Coffee and Tea of Downers Grove, Ill.; Pillsbury Bakeries & Food Service of Minneapolis; Bunge Foods Corporation of White Plains, N.Y.; and Decatur, Ill.-based Tate & Lyle.

Wulf has served on the board of directors for the Women’s Foodservice Forum and as a board member of the International Foodservice Manufacturers Association. She earned her bachelor’s degree in finance from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Ill., and her M.B.A. from DePaul University in Chicago.

NPC is the North American leader in direct-fed microbial products for beef and dairy cattle and continues to expand into other geographies and markets. NPC opened its headquarters in Overland Park in early 2009.

In September 2008, NPC partnered with The Halifax Group to recapitalize. Halifax is a private investment firm that invests alongside owners and managers of leading small-cap companies. Halifax’s equity sponsorship and resources will allow NPC to expand its research and development activities, while supporting efforts to license or acquire new technologies.
