MIAMI--()--Two recent guests of Miami’s Epic Hotel who may have contracted Legionnaire’s Disease from the improperly treated water at the luxury hotel have retained the Miami law firm of Hannon & Boyers to determine if legal action against the property will be taken. The two guests from Denmark who stayed at the hotel from Dec. 10 – 12 displayed symptoms consistent with the disease and have returned home to seek medical attention in Denmark.
“From our initial investigation, it appears that the Epic Hotel as well as the manufacturer and distributor of the water filtration system failed in their duty to protect the public from unsafe drinking water.”
“The hotel guests who we represent are very concerned about their health, as Legionnaire’s Disease is a very serious illness with a high fatality rate that has already claimed the life of one recent guest at the hotel and made several others very sick,” said Jim Hannon, the attorney for the victims. “From our initial investigation, it appears that the Epic Hotel as well as the manufacturer and distributor of the water filtration system failed in their duty to protect the public from unsafe drinking water.”
Miami-Dade health officials have issued an advisory for those who have recently stayed at the property to contact the department as well as their own personal physicians, especially if they have symptoms of Legionnaire's Disease. The symptoms include cough, fever, headaches and body aches, and the incubation period is two to 14 days from the time of exposure. The Epic Hotel has been closed while the Miami-Dade County Health Department conducts its inspections of the water and filtration system, which has been reported to have removed chlorine that prevents waterborne diseases.
