BLUE BELL, Pa.--()--Halfpenny Technologies, Inc., a leading health information exchange (HIE) solutions provider specializing in laboratory, pathology and physician electronic medical record (EMR) system interoperability, has introduced ITF-Mobile, a handheld results reporting system that enables physicians to securely access laboratory, pathology and radiology result reports from their iPhone, BlackBerry or Android-powered smartphones.
“As physicians seek more efficient ways of accessing and managing clinical information, they are increasingly relying on their handheld devices to provide them with time-critical information”
Developed to facilitate the portable exchange of clinical information, ITF-Mobile provides physicians with visual and audio alerts of incoming clinical messages and abnormal results. Based on user-defined rules, ITF-Mobile can be set up to deliver all lab results, test results with abnormal values, or only those results specifically ordered by a physician or requested by a patient. This ability to filter results based upon physician preference, thereby limiting alerts to results that meet each physician’s criteria, is a significant improvement over other clinical messaging systems that overload the physician with “nuisance” alerts. In addition, physicians can select specific lab tests for auto-trending so that they can monitor result trends.
“As physicians seek more efficient ways of accessing and managing clinical information, they are increasingly relying on their handheld devices to provide them with time-critical information,” said Charles Halfpenny, president and founder of Halfpenny Technologies. “With ITF-Mobile, physicians are able to review lab results, pathology reports and radiology reports at their convenience, which not only provides them with added flexibility but also enables them to respond more quickly to patient needs.”
ITF-Mobile is an extension of Halfpenny’s ITF-Portal, a Web-based connectivity solution that enables physicians to securely order lab procedures and review result reports through a standard, HIPAA-compliant Web browser. Both solutions are built upon Halfpenny’s proprietary Integration Technology Framework (ITF) health information exchange platform. The ITF connects physician EMR systems with hospitals and laboratories, and extends the functionality of legacy hospital and laboratory information systems (HIS/LIS).
ITF-Mobile ensures the secure transfer of clinical data to mobile devices via Halfpenny’s ITF-SecureConnect architecture, which utilizes a “push” concept similar to Blackberry e-mail. This approach eliminates the need for ITF-Mobile to make a physical connection to a remote server to view each report.
“With ITF-Mobile, physicians no longer have to wait for lab reports to arrive or take the time to login to a laptop or desktop computer to review clinical results,” said Jerry Baker, CEO of Halfpenny Technologies. “Instead, physicians are alerted proactively when results or panic values are available and don’t have to rely on the establishment of a connection to check for available results, enabling them to expedite clinical care decisions.”
