RedMere Introduces a Self-Powered Embedded Cable Booster Module for Long Cable Applications

2010 International CES

DUBLIN--(BUSINESS WIRE)--RedMere, the leading supplier of smart active cable solutions, has introduced the first self-powered HDMI long-length embedded active cable booster module to its product set.

This fully packaged module is suitable for boosting the performance of HDMI cables to up to 40 meters for connecting applications running at high speeds. The module enables cable designers to create reliable and interoperable longer length cables. A rise time accelerator is included in the module to compensate for DCC interoperability issues seen particularly in long cables due to high capacitance.

“Today’s hi-def installations, both in the home and in the office, often involve sources connected to displays which reside in different rooms, or long cable runs to ceiling-mounted projectors. With these longer runs come bulky cables, lower performance and reliability, and troublesome power requirements for boosters. RedMere’s new self-powered module extends cable length up to 40 meters (130 feet) while ensuring the highest performance and guaranteed support for all HDMI data rates”, commented Peter Smyth, RedMere CEO.

The module uses RedMere’s unique EyeWire technology for V1.3 and V1.4 HDMI high speed cables. The cables embed signal processing technology directly into the cable structure to improve bandwidth performance. This chip also adopts innovative power harvesting techniques. This is a fully tested solution which guarantees performance over long distances. The product is a completed module, ready to integrate into the sink end of the cable.

CMO of RedMere, Ruud van der Linden noted: “High end cable brands are already using RedMere’s leading-edge EyeWire chip technology in their active HDMI cables. This chip allows the cables to become compact and lighter, matching the sleek appearance of the portable consumer electronics they connect. For this new active booster module, we see another real market demand – very long high speed HDMI cables.”

Samples of the product, MEA1689, are now available.

RedMere will be displaying this product and other demonstrations at CES, Las Vegas in 35271MP, South Hall 4, Upper Level.
