Boston-Power Founder and CEO Dr. Christina Lampe-Önnerud to Share Energy Storage Expertise During Road to Copenhagen Conference

Internationally Respected Battery Technology Innovator Will Lend Scientific Expertise to UN Effort to Combat Climate Change and Carbon Pollution

WESTBOROUGH, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Boston-Power, Inc., the rapidly growing provider of next-generation lithium-ion batteries, today announced its founder and CEO, Dr. Christina Lampe-Önnerud, will participate in the Road to Copenhagen Conference taking place in Malmö, Sweden on December 8 and 9, 2009. The conference will host an elite group of scientists, academics, politicians and business leaders from around the world. This final Road to Copenhagen conference immediately precedes the COP15 United Nations Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, Denmark at which the UN seeks to reach a post-Kyoto Protocol global climate change agreement.

“At Boston-Power, our commitment to environmental sustainability on a global scale goes hand in hand with our commitment to innovation in portable power, electrification of transportation and energy storage”

Lending her scientific expertise and track record of commitment to climate change issues, Dr. Lampe-Önnerud will participate in a technology working group chaired by Margot Wallström, Vice-President of the European Commission and former Environment Commissioner. Dr. Lampe-Önnerud will draw on her knowledge to help ensure that the discussions at Road to Copenhagen are rooted in sound scientific data, and will share Boston-Power’s firmly held belief that climate change requires a sense of urgency and commitment to action now on the part of the global community.

“At Boston-Power, our commitment to environmental sustainability on a global scale goes hand in hand with our commitment to innovation in portable power, electrification of transportation and energy storage,” said Dr. Lampe-Önnerud. “We believe that embracing innovation is the best means toward effective climate change control on a global scale. Unprecedented advances in energy storage R&D makes substantive progress against this goal realistic. Products engineered to last longer are both good for customers and good for the environment.”

Notably, Dr. Lampe-Önnerud’s beliefs are embodied in the success of Boston-Power. Its advances in the area of energy storage -- the company has more than 100 patents pending -- have won the company worldwide acclaim. Proving that a commitment to environmental sustainability can complement sought-after, competitively differentiated products and world-class manufacturing, the company counts HP among its customers -- making it the first U.S.-based firm ever to provide battery technology to a global notebook PC vendor.

Boston-Power’s battery technology supports environmental sustainability on multiple levels. The dramatic increase it brings in cumulative battery life and predictability greatly reduces the need for battery replacement, requiring less energy to be expended -- and fewer raw materials to be consumed -- in the manufacturing required to replace current-generation batteries. The company also chooses environmentally responsible materials in both the development and manufacturing of the batteries and their packaging. In recognition of these facts, Boston-Power is the first and only provider whose rechargeable lithium-ion battery cells have earned the prestigious Nordic Ecolabel accreditation. The company’s products have also earned a similar industry-first certification from China Environmental United Certification Center.

Dr. Christina Lampe-Önnerud has an established track record of commitment to environmental sustainability, providing expertise on energy and environmental issues to governments and NGOs around the globe. While serving as top executive of Boston-Power, she has remained active in groups such as Club of Madrid, where she has lent her scientific expertise to combat climate change. Her work on this issue also includes participation in the previous Road to Copenhagen conference, the Technology and Finance in Climate Cooperation (CC8) conference, held in June 2008 in Oslo, Norway, and the Road to Copenhagen Conference 2007 in Brussels, Belgium.
