Perceptics Introduces Color License Plate Reader System for Middle Eastern Countries That Incorporates Arabic Optical Character Recognition

Color System Designed for Critical Border Security Applications and High-Profile Government and Commercial Facility Security

KNOXVILLE, Tenn.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Perceptics, LLC, the nation’s leading border security and traffic management company, has introduced a Color License Plate Reader (LPR) System that uses the license plate’s color as one of the Optical Character Recognition (OCR) variables to enhance its state or country of origin accuracy level.

“Our new Color / Arabic LPR system represents a significant enhancement in Perceptics’ line of security and traffic management products. It gives us a new way to customize our OCR technology to mission-critical security applications in the region.”

Designed for critical Middle Eastern border security applications and high-profile government and commercial facility security, Perceptics Color LPR systems with Arabic OCR enable officials to improve threat detection by quickly identifying vehicles in need of further scrutiny. They also expedite border crossings by allowing vehicles of no consequence to pass through quickly.

Some highlights of the Perceptics Color/Arabic LPR System:

  • Perceptics is the first LPR / Automatic Number Plate Recognition manufacturer to utilize the license plate’s color as a discriminator in its Optical Character Recognition (OCR) software engine. It is not just a color picture of a license plate. Perceptics’ OCR software uses the license plate’s color as one of the OCR variables to refine its ability to determine the plate’s origin.
  • Perceptics’ stroboscopic illumination and OCR engine overcome the limitations of an infrared-based LPR system and deliver highly accurate, real-time license plate results in less than a second. An infrared LPR system cannot read non-reflective plates or a red plate with white letters or a white plate with red letters.
  • Perceptics’ monochrome and color LPR systems now support both Arabic and English character recognition.
  • Perceptics’ monochrome and color LPR systems installed in the Middle East today achieve 95 percent accuracy in full plate read and identifies state or country of origin.

According to Tom Hayes, VP Sales & Marketing, “Our new Color / Arabic LPR system represents a significant enhancement in Perceptics’ line of security and traffic management products. It gives us a new way to customize our OCR technology to mission-critical security applications in the region.”
