Huntington Park Man Charged with Filing a False Workers' Compensation Claim; Investigation Handled by Llorente SIU

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Llorente SIU, in partnership with Alaska National Insurance Company, learned today of the arrest of a Huntington Park man for alleged workers’ compensation insurance fraud. Pedro Ramos, 29, was arrested today as a result of the investigation conducted by Senior Investigator Craig Ratliff with the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. Ramos was charged with three counts of Insurance Fraud, one count of Attempted Perjury, and one count of using a False SSN card and Resident Alien card. The case is being prosecuted by Los Angeles County Deputy District Attorney Samer Hathout.

On July 11, 2007, Ramos told his employer that he injured himself at home and was under the care of a personal physician who placed him on modified duty. The employer advised that modified duty was not available and that Ramos should file for state disability. On July 30, 2007, the employer received notice that Ramos was represented by an attorney for a workers’ compensation claim involving injuries sustained on July 10, 2007.

An investigation by Alaska National Insurance Company in partnership with Llorente SIU found that Ramos had made material misrepresentations in sworn testimony and to medical providers for the purpose of filing a false claim. The alleged fraud cost Alaska National Insurance Company over $40,000.
