Toshiba Gears Up for Month of Intense Environmental Sustainability and Community-Based Activities in October

-- With Home Building, Community Cleanup, Tree Planting and More, Toshiba Companies Across the U.S. Seek To Give Back to the Communities Where They Live And Work --

NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Toshiba is demonstrating its ongoing global commitment to environmental sustainability and local communities with a series of activities throughout October. Aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and contributing to local communities, these initiatives are being undertaken by several U.S.-based Toshiba companies, including Toshiba America Information Systems (TAIS) in California, Toshiba America Consumer Products (TACP) in New Jersey and Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) in Texas.

“We applaud Toshiba for its commitment to help plant trees in the community, and we are proud to be part of the company’s 1.5 million tree planting initiative by 2025.”

Mr. Yoshihide Fujii, CEO & Chairman of Toshiba America, Inc., noted: “All Toshiba businesses share a corporate-wide dedication to people and the future, and as a leading environmentally conscious company with innovative technologies and products, we strive in everything we do to contribute to a sustainable society. December is Toshiba Group’s Corporate Social Responsibility month, so these October initiatives are a good way for us to ramp up for even more upcoming activities across the country.”

Below are several of Toshiba’s scheduled community activities for October:

  • ORANGE COUNTY, Calif. – In order to promote environmental sustainability and help strengthen community pride, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) participated in a “build day” on Saturday, October 3. Elements included a Toshiba “Whole House” sponsorship in San Juan Capistrano as part of the Habitat for Heroes & Foundations for Families™ project. The project calls for the creation of 27 homes, with 15 of them designated for disabled veterans or the surviving families of veterans.
  • HOUSTON: On Saturday, October 17 from 9:00 AM to Noon, Toshiba International Corporation (TIC) will plant trees and clean up Houston’s Aron Ledet Park, working in conjunction with the Trees for Houston project. Many Toshiba employees have volunteered, along with family and friends, to join in the effort to help beautify their neighboring community. TIC President Shinichiro Akiba will participate in the effort.
  • WAYNE, N.J.: Between October 14-16, Toshiba America Consumer Products, L.L.C. (TACP) will plant trees at local schools. Toshiba employees will join students and teachers to plant the trees in collaboration with the NJ Tree Foundation. Several of the school locations where trees will be planted (listed below) are alma maters of Toshiba employees and were chosen by them.

- Passaic Valley High, Wednesday, October 14, 10:00 AM;
- Mahwah Lenape Meadows Elementary School, Thursday, October 15, 9:30 AM;
- Allendale High School, Thursday, October 15, 2:00 PM;
- Wayne Valley High, Friday, October 16, 9:30 AM;
- Wayne Hills High, Friday, October 16, 1:30 PM.

As part of the effort, additional trees will also be donated to the NJ Tree Foundations’ Newark Renaissance Trees Program to help with the “greening” of urban schools in Newark.

Toshiba’s eco-friendly community tree-planting projects are part of a previously announced Toshiba initiative to plant 1.5 million trees by 2025. Lisa Simms, director of the New Jersey Tree Foundation, noted: “We applaud Toshiba for its commitment to help plant trees in the community, and we are proud to be part of the company’s 1.5 million tree planting initiative by 2025.”

Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity, noted: “We are dedicated to ending substandard housing in Orange County and to helping build stronger communities, and we’re very appreciative of the substantial contribution that Toshiba and its employees are making toward this effort.”

Barry J. Ward, Executive Director for the Trees For Houston, noted: “By planting trees and engendering a sense of stewardship, each participant in this program is enhancing the environment, building pride and helping enrich the quality of life for everyone. Toshiba’s participation is definitely a great help in the effort to build a sustainable society.”
