SUNY Stony Brook Expands Its Use of PatientKeeper with the Implementation of PatientKeeper ePrescription and Pay for Performance (P4P) Applications

PatientKeeper providing electronic ePrescribing and automated data collection for PQRI measurement to help streamline the patient care process

BOSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PatientKeeper®, Inc., the leading provider of Physician Information Technology, announced today that the physicians at State University of New York (SUNY) at Stony Brook will be using PatientKeeper ePrescription™ and PatientKeeper Pay for Performance (P4P)™, expanding their deployment of the PatientKeeper’s physician-focused applications.

PatientKeeper P4P automates the process of capturing and reporting Physician Quality Reporting Initiative (PQRI) measures to Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS). The P4P solution is an extension of the PatientKeeper Charge Capture™ application. The P4P solution is an extension of the PatientKeeper Charge Capture™ application. As charges are entered, the application automatically prompts the physician if there is additional information required for PQRI measurement.

PatientKeeper ePrescription (powered by DrFirst) allows physicians to write and send complete, accurate prescriptions from PatientKeeper directly to the pharmacy. Physicians can enter prescription orders and check patient medication histories from any location. In addition, the solution automatically checks for drug allergies, drug-to-drug interactions and formulary compliance.

Currently 15 departments are using PatientKeeper solutions at SUNY Stony Brook, which encompasses over 450 providers and comprises 70 percent of the entire faculty practice plan providers. SUNY Stony Brook is planning to implement the ePrescription solution in its Urology department first, expanding to the rest of their departments by year-end in order to take advantage of the two percent Medicare incentive payments for ePrescribing in 2010. The practice plan will begin capturing six PQRI measures first, and then will encourage all providers to report the PQRI measures as well to take advantage of the two percent Medicare incentive payments for PQRI reporting in 2010. Physicians will be able to adopt these PatientKeeper solutions with minimal training, resource allocation or disruption in their workflow.
