TransCore to Provide RFID Technology for the Atlanta HOT Lane Conversion

HARRISBURG, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--TransCore, the world’s largest provider of transportation-based radio frequency identification (RFID) products, was notified by Georgia’s State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) of their intent to award TransCore a contract to provide RFID technology for the conversion of SRTA’s high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes to high occupancy toll (HOT) lanes along a 15-mile stretch of I-85 in Atlanta. The contract includes RFID tags, antennas, readers, and support services. The HOT lanes are scheduled to open January 2011.

“We’re pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with SRTA, particularly as they develop their HOT-lane application”

John Simler, TransCore’s Intelligent Transportation Systems Group president, comments, “This demonstrates our commitment to provide technology specifically designed to meet our customer’s requirements.”

TransCore has provided RFID technology for SRTA’s operation of the Georgia 400 toll road since the mid 1990s. “We’re pleased to continue our longstanding relationship with SRTA, particularly as they develop their HOT-lane application,” continued Simler.

TransCore’s RFID research and development experience spans deploying a myriad of wireless communication technology and subsequent protocols including IAG, SeGo, Title 21, ISO 10374 (ATA), ISO 18006 b and c, CEN and TDMA. TransCore has more than 39 million tags and 60 thousand readers deployed in transportation applications around the world, from toll collection to logistics services, with virtually 100 percent of all rail cars in North America deploying two TransCore tags, along with homeland security applications, electronic vehicle registration, access control, and border crossing applications both in the United States and abroad.
