TexasOnline Partners with nCourt to Provide eFiling Services Dedicated to Justice of the Peace Courts

Texas Residents Can Now Take Advantage of eFiling for Lower Court Documents Such as Small Claims and Landlord/Tenants Proceedings via the Web

WOODSTOCK, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--nCourt, LLC, a leading provider of eFiling and payment solutions for lower courts, today announced that its eFiling system was selected through TexasOnline, the official online portal for the state of Texas. nCourt provides Texans and filers worldwide with the ability to file court documents in Texas justice courts, including small claims and eviction proceedings via a secure Web system. As the first state to implement a statewide system supporting an open model for vendors serving attorneys and courts, TexasOnline’s eFiling for Courts service has been optimized for District, County and Probate courts. Through nCourt, filers in the Justice of the Peace courts can finally take advantage of the increased benefits eFiling provides, including the online preparation of documents, saving them time, resources and streamlining the filing process.

“The partnership between nCourt and TexasOnline indicates the great progress being made in the adoption of eFiling across the country. User-friendly eFiling systems such as nCourt give people easy access to our legal system, rather than scaring them away at its front door”

Today, parties can eFile in sixteen Texas Justice of the Peace courts, including courts in Bell, El Paso, Fort Bend, Lubbock, Randall, Tom Green, and Williamson Counties.

With a statutory maximum limit of $10,000 per filing, Pro Se litigation is on the rise. Paper filings are creating bottlenecks in the court system since the majority of Pro Se litigants do not have a thorough knowledge of how to navigate the court process. nCourt offers users step-by-step filing guidance, ensuring that documents are properly filled out and submitted to the court. The system is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and includes a professionally staffed, bilingual customer service center. Because of this convenience, citizens can complete a filing process that typically takes several hours in just a matter of minutes from the comfort of their home or office. Pro Se litigants no longer have to endure the burden and expense of traveling to courthouses, filing out documents, and waiting in long lines.

“Until last week I had never had to file a case with small claims court. I had no idea where to begin,” said Jill Stinson, Lubbock County resident. “After a brief Internet search, I found nCourt. I was able to simply read the instructions step by step, but I did have a few questions so I called nCourt’s customer service. They were extremely helpful and were able to help correct a mistake I had made. Nichole, my service representative, was exceptionally helpful. She even took the time to give me a follow up call to make sure everything went through okay! This was all so much easier than driving across town to file and much less expensive than hiring an attorney. I am thankful Lubbock County in Texas is using nCourt!”

“We are pleased to be able to provide our eFiling services to Texas’ Justice of the Peace courts,” said David Morris, CEO of nCourt. “Historically, Texas has a reputation for being on the cutting edge when it comes to electronic filing through its TexasOnline portal. Offering Pro Se litigants our services further validates the State’s positive, innovative stance.”

nCourt serves the eFiling needs of many states including Delaware, Florida, Georgia, and New York. Pro Se litigants who file through nCourt realize a number of benefits, including improved tracking of filings to multiple courts, fewer returned filings or delayed filings due to incomplete information or incorrect payment, and immediate notifications once case numbers, court dates and service dates are set.

“The partnership between nCourt and TexasOnline indicates the great progress being made in the adoption of eFiling across the country. User-friendly eFiling systems such as nCourt give people easy access to our legal system, rather than scaring them away at its front door,” said Tom Gordon, Senior Counsel and Policy Director for The Center for Legal Empowerment, Accountability and Reform (CLEAR). “eFiling’s increasing availability to the lower courts is a tremendous benefit to Pro Se litigants. Often, people do not use these courts because they are intimidated by legalese or cannot take time off from work to get to a courthouse. We are pleased to see Texas join Georgia, Florida, Delaware, and New York in benefiting from nCourt’s Pro Se-focused service. We look forward to watching the eFiling trend grow, thanks to providers like nCourt.”
