Mercanti Announces Tom Clerkin to Lead Restructuring Practice

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Mercanti Group announces the addition of Thomas P. Clerkin as a managing director in the firm’s Los Angeles office. Tom joins Mercanti with over 25 years of industry experience, most recently as a partner at private equity firms Yucaipa Companies and Leonard Green & Partners, LLP.

During his investment banking career, Tom served as the Co-Head of the West Coast Mergers & Acquisitions practice of DLJ/CSFB, Head of the Los Angeles Corporate Finance Group of Bear, Stearns & Co. and Global Co-Head of the Financial Sponsors Coverage Group of Bear, Stearns & Co. He started his investment banking career at Drexel Burnham Lambert Incorporated where he was a managing director in the firm’s leveraged acquisition group. In addition to acquisition and financing transactions, Tom has advised debtors, creditors (including labor unions) and potential third-party sponsors of reorganization plans or acted as a principal in a wide range of out-of-court and in-court restructurings, including Americold Logistics, UAL (the parent of United Airlines), Venture Holdings, Cyrk, Renaissance Cosmetics, Lone Star Cement, Circle K Corporation, Kaiser Aluminum, Elsinore Corporation, Tel-Am Corporation and World Airways.

Tom received a BA from Colgate University, a JD from Seattle University, a LLM from New York University and a MBA from Columbia University. Tom also is a member of the State Bar of California.
