UEFI Forum Publishes New Specifications as the Momentum of UEFI Adoption Continues

Three Specifications Ratified and Published; Test Suite Published; UEFI Infrastructure Now Largely Complete, Millions of UEFI-Based Systems Now Shipping

BEAVERTON, Ore.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--The Unified EFI Forum, a non-profit, collaborative, specification organization formed to define, promote and manage the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface announces the ratification, publication and immediate availability of four new items:

• The UEFI Specification, Version 2.3
• The UEFI Platform Initialization Specification, Version 1.2
• The UEFI Platform Initialization Distribution Packaging Specification, Version 1.0
• The Self Certification Test (SCT) for the UEFI Specification, Version 2.1

These items are available now at the UEFI Forum’s web site at http://www.uefi.org.

With the release of version 2.3 of the UEFI Specification and version 1.2 of the Platform Initialization Specification, the infrastructure of UEFI is now largely complete for Intel-Architecture and ARM based platforms. The UEFI Forum anticipates that future releases of these and related specifications will focus on future hardware support, extended feature capabilities and methods for platform innovation.

These new items are being released in the context of rapidly growing market adoption of UEFI. OEMs and ODMs are using UEFI as the firmware foundation for their new system designs. Many millions of users have purchased UEFI-based systems, often without being aware of it, since most UEFI systems offer backward-compatible booting of legacy operating systems.
