Attendees gain a hands-on, how to guide from faculty about how to compile legislative histories including statutory and code research, internet resources, bills, resolutions, and committee reports. This course is aimed for professionals who have basic research skills and an understanding of the legislative process.
An experienced attorney will review with attendees:
- Various document types necessary to research and compile legislative histories including enacted laws, bills and resolutions, floor debates and committee reports with a focus on federal (not state) legislative history research methodologies
- The fastest ways to find and use print and online documents
- Professional secrets and tips
In addition to the topics above, the instructor will show the attendees floor debates and will review legislative case studies.
The conference is approved for .6 CEU credits from George Mason University. Fee consists of all course materials including our Legislative Histories Reference and Research Tools handout, a continental breakfast, and a networking lunch. Attendees can follow our faculty and navigate the Internet with one of our laptop computers or bring their own Wi-Fi equipped laptops and take advantage of our Wi-Fi classroom.
