ROCHESTER, N.Y.--()--WindTamer Corporation, makers of a new type of wind turbine called the WindTamer®, has installed its first turbine on a residential property in Perry, New York.

“This marks the beginning of a new era in renewable energy,” according to inventor and WindTamer Corporation CEO Jerry Brock. “We’ve brought wind power down to earth in a way that we believe makes it accessible even for residential applications.”

With its patented design, the 3.5kW WindTamer turbine will produce power at the residence which can be used in three distinct ways:

1. Delivered to the household for daily power needs

2. Delivered to battery storage units for back up power when needed

3. Sold back to the grid through a metered link to local distribution lines

Public data has shown average wind speeds range from 9 -14 miles per hour at the site. With these wind speeds, the Company estimates that the 3.5kW WindTamer turbine will produce from approximately 10,000 to 15,000 kW/h of electricity annually, and do it more efficiently than traditional propeller-based turbines.

And unlike the giant mega-turbines which require enormous amounts of land, materials, infrastructure, and capital investment to deliver power to the grid, WindTamer turbines have a very small footprint, need no special infrastructure, and produce power at the point of consumption.

Installed at a height of 30 feet with an aesthetically pleasing “wind flower” design, the WindTamer turbine has not faced the public objections or outcry that the mega-turbines have. “We went to the Town of Perry and received our permits after a single two-hour meeting,” said WindTamer Chief Executive Officer Gerald Brock.

The Company is entering into a promotional lease with the property owner in connection with the installation of the 3.5kW turbine. The Company plans to obtain performance data from the turbine’s operation.

“WindTamer turbines, which are available in a range of sizes from 1.5kW to 20kW, are ideally suited to residential customers, commercial and industrial customers, government and municipalities, and those who want to be major players in the renewable energy market,” Brock continued. “We believe that this is a game-changing technology.”
