NEW YORK--()--Monster.com®, the leading global online career and recruitment resource and flagship brand of Monster Worldwide, Inc. (NYSE: MWW), together with The National Football League (NFL) today announced that Monster will launch a unique promotion during Super Bowl XLIII in an effort to identify, recognize and reward one of football’s biggest fans.
“We are excited to team with Monster to deliver this unique opportunity to our fans to be a part of the NFL”
Monster and the NFL have teamed to create the Department of Fandemonium (DOF) and Monster will launch a national contest providing fans the chance to apply to be the first ever Director of Fandemonium. The Director of Fandemonium will serve as goodwill ambassador for Monster and the NFL at several marquee events during the 2009 NFL season and also will receive a $100,000 signing bonus, courtesy of Monster. The Director of Fandemonium will serve in the following roles throughout the year:
- NFL Draft: Announce a pick at the 2009 NFL Draft (April)
- NFL Kickoff: Act as backstage talent wrangler at the 2009 NFL Kickoff concert (Sept.)
- International Series: Participate in on-field introductions at the game in London (Oct.)
- Thanksgiving: Serve as an on-field NFL Network broadcast liaison for the NFL Network’s Thanksgiving Game (Nov.)
- Pro Bowl: Select a play from the sidelines during the 2010 Pro Bowl (Jan. 2010)
- Super Bowl: Join the coin toss ceremony at Super Bowl XLIV (Feb. 2010)
“The Director of Fandemonium promotion is the perfect alliance between the NFL and Monster. We’ve turned the act of being an NFL fan into a ‘dream job’,” said Ted Gilvar, executive vice president and chief global marketing officer, Monster Worldwide, Inc. “We invite people to come to the new monster.com to check out the contest and to see how our new online tools can help them find jobs in a competitive job market.”
“We are excited to team with Monster to deliver this unique opportunity to our fans to be a part of the NFL,” said Mark Waller, the NFL’s senior vice president of marketing and sales.
As the league’s official career services sponsor, Monster is leveraging this Director of Fandemonium promotion as part of the company’s multiyear marketing sponsorship with the NFL, which includes two 30-second advertising spots slated to air during Super Bowl XLIII. As part of its NFL sponsorship alliance, Monster will be an official sponsor of the NFL Pro Bowl, the NFL Draft, NFL Kickoff and the NFL Playoffs.
The Director of Fandemonium contest is open to legal U.S. residents who are at least 18 years of age. Candidates may apply for the open position at nfl.monster.com between February 1 and February 15, 2009. Alternatively, during the contest period, interested entrants may send a text message with the keyword “FAN” from compatible wireless mobile devices, addressed to the shortcode 24421. Entrants will receive a text message response back directing them to the promotional landing page where they may officially enter the contest.
Thirty-two finalists (one per each NFL team) will be randomly selected to travel to New York City in mid-March for an interview at NFL offices with the DOF Board of Directors, which will include NFL and Monster personnel, as well as retired NFL players. All 32 finalists will also receive two tickets for all 2009 regular season home games of their favorite team.
“In my career, I've experienced big games like the Super Bowl and the Pro Bowl first-hand, so I understand how cool this Director of Fandemonium promotion really is,” said Michael Strahan, retired NFL star. “Through this Monster / NFL promotion, this winner will get access like nothing that’s ever been granted before – on the field, near the players, literally part of the game. It’s really a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the ultimate football fan.”
