Go Daddy’s New Super Bowl Drama Unfolding Online

Public Vote for Super Bowl Ad Going Down to the Wire

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Time is running out for you to vote on which censor-approved Go Daddy commercial you want to see NBC broadcast during the Super Bowl Feb. 1. Online voting closes Friday evening and right now it’s a very tight race.

As of this morning, “Shower” has an edge over “Baseball.” The lead has changed multiple times since Go Daddy launched its online voting campaign to help decide which commercial to air in the Feb. 1 Super Bowl broadcast.

Go Daddy CEO and Founder Bob Parsons came up with the plan to have the public help after an unprecedented twist. This year, Go Daddy received network approval for TWO GoDaddy-esque commercials weeks in advance of the Super Bowl broadcast. Historically, censors have rejected Go Daddy’s risqué ads, requiring edits and creating the kind of drama critics came to expect from the Web hosting and domain name titan.

“It’s a little different for us this year – having not one, but two ads approved so early,” said Parsons, who is the architect of Go Daddy’s legendary Super Bowl campaigns over the last five years. “People think we submit edgy ads just to be rejected. The truth is the censors and critics threw us lemons and we made lemonade.”

As is tradition, critics have panned Go Daddy’s new Super Bowl ads. One television network even refused to broadcast Go Daddy’s already approved “Baseball” ad. It features Go Daddy Girl Danica Patrick and spoofs baseball’s steroids scandal with an emphasis on a certain part of the female anatomy being “enhanced.”

“Shower,” the current front-runner, features Patrick in a shower with another woman as three college students control the women’s movements from a computer keyboard.

Whichever Go Daddy commercial airs Super Bowl Sunday, viewers will be invited to visit www.GoDaddy.com where they can see the Internet-Only versions of each, which are too hot for television and pick up where both ads end.

The big question now, when will Go Daddy reveal the winning Super Bowl ad?

“I haven’t decided that just yet,” Parsons teased. “Seems like a good idea to unveil it on game day, but you know, I just might announce it sooner.”
