Trusted Computer Solutions Broadens System Lock-Down Support to Include Solaris Operating System

Security Blanket Enables Systems Administrators to Manage Enterprise-Wide Site Policies Across Multiple Operating Systems from a Single Console

HERNDON, Va.--()--Trusted Computer Solutions, Inc. (TCS), a developer of security applications, today announced that Security Blanket Enterprise Edition, its award-winning system lock-down tool and security management solution, now supports Sun Microsystems Inc.s Solaris 10 for Scalable Processor Architecture (SPARC). This enterprise solution enables systems administrators to automatically configure and enhance the security of their Solaris operating platforms by simplifying the hardening process that must be undertaken on a regular basis to meet security compliance requirements.

“Adding Solaris to the list of operating systems that Security Blanket supports is in direct response to feedback we are hearing from current customers”

Already a proven solution within the Linux industry, Security Blanket now provides the same features and benefits to administrators that must also lock down Solaris systems. Security Blanket enables administrators to set site security policies across the enterprise without having to worry about the type of machine or operating system (OS). In addition to Solaris 10, the product allows for seamless management of Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, Oracle Enterprise Linux 4 and 5, and CentOS 4 and 5. The ability to manage multiple types of OSs and push out site wide policy automatically from a single console is unprecedented.

Adding Solaris to the list of operating systems that Security Blanket supports is in direct response to feedback we are hearing from current customers, said Ed Hammersla, Chief Operating Officer, Trusted Computer Solutions. Many of our Linux customers also have large investments in Solaris servers, so it made sense to provide system administrators a way to secure both major operating systems from a single console. Security Blanket is easy to use and provides significant time and cost savings, while increasing the productivity of an organizations system administration resources.

Commercial and government organizations that have Solaris systems within their environment can now benefit from the following features:

System Administration Console This capability allows system administrators the ability to manage multiple OSs and push out site wide policy from a single console. Now, users can group Solaris servers by functional commonality, run scans to determine the level of compliancy against industry security standards, automatic compliance configuration as well as run baseline reports to identify changes over time.

Baseline Comparisons & Reports A key component to Security Blanket is baselining that allows users to capture a snapshot of the OS configuration, archive reports and run Baseline Comparisons to identify differences between captured baselines whether on a single console or a group of servers. Currently, Solaris 10 contains its own Basic Audit Reporting Tool (BART) that reports on files, fingerprints and permissions. Security Blanket extends on that functionality to include the differences in every software package, network configurations and all devices hooked to a machine.

Lock-down Guidelines Unique to Security Blanket is the wide-range of industry standard lock-down guidelines that are built into the product. Users have the flexibility of scanning and configuring the OS to meet these standards, as well as the ability to customize profiles to meet organizational requirements. These guidelines include: the DISA UNIX STIGs, SANS LAMP, SANS SAMP, Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI/DSS), Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP), Joint Air Force Army Navy (JAFAN) and the Director of Central Intelligence Directive (DCID) 6/3. Security Blanket also provides functionality to automatically undo the application of a profile and return the OS to its prior security state.

In developing the Solaris version of Security Blanket, TCS incorporated the Center for Internet Security (CIS) Benchmark 4.0 for Solaris 10, a collaboration between Sun Microsystems and CIS. Users now have the assurance they are locking down their Solaris servers in compliance with these guidelines. Additionally, Security Blanket is now zone aware, which means the system knows what is applicable across a global and non-global Solaris zones. These zones control vital global system resources, which Security Blanket can recognize what needs to be configured depending on the zone.

About Security Blanket

Security Blanket Enterprise Edition was developed for organizations managing a medium-to-large number of Linux servers. It is comprised of an Administration Console where all Linux and Solaris servers can be centrally managed. The standalone version of Security Blanket is installed on each individual server. The Enterprise Editions console communicates with each standalone server, allowing centralized management. Organizations with a smaller number of Linux servers may elect to simply run the standalone version on each server and manage them independently.

Find out how easy system lock down can be using Security Blanket. The Try Me option will scan your Linux OS for vulnerabilities against a limited security profile. The trial will enable visitors to the site to try all of the lock down functions available in the full product. This free trial is active for 30 days from date of download.
