Dominique Varner of Hughes Watters Askanase to Speak Nov. 3 at the Texas Credit Union League's 2008 Compliance, Audit and Human Resources Conference

HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dominique Varner, a partner with Hughes Watters Askanase L.L.P. (www.hwa.com), has been selected as a speaker for the upcoming Texas Credit Union League’s 2008 Compliance, Audit and Human Resources Conference in Dallas, Texas. The conference will be held Nov. 2-4 at the Dallas Lincoln Centre.

Varner, who supports HWA’s Bankruptcy and Consumer Financial Services Practice areas, is scheduled to speak on Nov. 3. Her presentation is entitled “Do You Know the Ins and Outs of Your Most Complex Accounts?" and will address advanced deposit account issues. Varner has served as a presenter at Texas Credit Union League conferences in the past, having spoken on topics ranging from the Federal Debt Collection Practice Act to handling deceased borrower accounts.

Corina Balsells, Course Director, who has been actively involved in the planning of the Texas Credit Union League Conference, asked Varner to participate in the 2008 conference. Balsells recommended Varner because of her familiarity with Varner’s experience in representing credit unions for more than 13 years.

I will also be discussing estate and trust accounts and how credit unions should respond to garnishments and tax levies, which occur more often than one would expect. Responding in the wrong way to these types of legal actions imposed against accounts can result in unintended liability for the credit union,” Varner commented.

The Compliance, Audit, and Human Resources Conference was developed to equip attendees with the tools needed to help credit unions grow in this rapidly changing financial environment. Varner, who joined HWA in 1995, focuses on creditor’s rights in bankruptcy and in probate, where she initiates dependent administrations on behalf of secured creditors. She also handles contested foreclosures and loan workouts as well as routine collection matters. Board Certified in Consumer Bankruptcy Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, she provides guidance and solutions for her creditor clients in a variety of forums.
