WESTBORO, Mass.--()--Top Layer Security, a leading global provider of Network Intrusion Prevention Systems (IPS), announced that its IPS 5500 provides customers with zero-day protection for the critical Microsoft Server Service Vulnerability (CVE-2008-4250, MS08-067) disclosed today as an out-of-band bulletin, based on analysis of the details provided through Top Layer’s membership in the Microsoft Active Protections Program (MAPP).
Protection against the new Microsoft vulnerability is particularly important because Microsoft reports that active exploits are currently being seen on the Internet. Top Layer provides proactive protection through a rule in its IPS 5500 that is enabled as part of the "Recommended Client Protection" and "Recommended Server Protection" IPS Rule Sets. Top Layer IPS 5500 customers using recommended rule sets have been protected for over a year.
In addition, Top Layer has issued a same-day Protection Pack that provides additional protection against post-exploitation activity initiated by vulnerable systems that have been exploited by known attacks currently in the wild.
