The Directory of Top Computer Executives data base was created in 1972 with the goal of covering the largest IT departments across the U.S. and Canada. For an organization to be listed, it must have a full-time VP, Director, or Manager of IT have a multi-user host computer or have more than 75 deployed PCs in the U.S. or 25 in Canada. The primary focus is companies with more than 500 employees, with coverage currently expanding to companies with 250 or more employees.

How accurate is the Directory? How up to date is it?

It is our goal to update every entry at least once per year. Updates are generally accomplished through a telephone interview, as well as occasional mail verifications. Our update activities reveal that:

About 85% of all records have some type of change to their data
About 20% to 25% of all top computer executives leave their jobs
About 15% of second-level managers leave their jobs
About 7 1/2% of phone numbers change (not including area code changes)
About 6 1/2% of company addresses change

All electronic lists and data bases are based on the most current data available. The book version is published twice per year so we can distribute as many changes as soon as possible. As an indicator of accuracy, the return rate of bad addresses for direct mail campaigns is generally less than one percent. That's not to say that deliverability is better than 99%, because people and addresses change every day. Directory accuracy, however, is something we take very seriously.

Each update cycle typically produces about 700 to 1,200 new installations that are added to the data base.

One-year unlimited use and lifetime use data bases include all available data. The book version includes all data except the fax number and magazine list codes. One-time use lists only include the data required for that particular campaign.
